I don't think the alpha channel is unused. I think it stores specular information, instead. Tileset textures with _s use the alpha channel to store specularity and _h textures use it to store height information. I experimented a bit on an image I made a few months ago and the Shadowlands legendary armor models had specular information in their respective alpha channels.
I'd always suggest using said alpha channel in the specular slot (after setting it to channel-packed, of course) so that it emulates the game a bit more.
My friend, can you plz explain to dumb ppl like me, how to enable alpha in blender 2.91 or 2.92? I have 2.90 and when i import map, it imports mostly play, but with some "invisible" parts of buildings, like theres no texture, and the prees looks OK, but then i try import at blender 2.91 and 2.92, some "invisible" parts of buildings loads OK, BUT all trees and flowers have no alpha on leaves, and looks horrible... how to ENABLE alpha ???? ty :)
