Amusingly the tune to Auld Lang Syne is used in a popular song in Japan called Hotaru no Hikari which is commonly used for things like graduations or store closing time

I could only imagine my Mums suprise not knowing about Auld Lang Syne being a scottish folk song. When a train carriage of inibtieated Scots coming back from the football or rugby singing a song that she last heard when being politely told to vacate a deptartment store in Ginza 25 years previously
