@Brian - When you push down on the SOP adapter the contacts open to allow the device to drop in. Releasing should clamp the device in place (between the opened contacts). If your device won’t fit under the opened contacts, then you probably have the wrong width SOP adapter. They come in different widths. eg. 150mil, 200mil etc.

I had the same problem with the soic8 adapter, turns out the attiny85 is soic8 wide!!

Did your smd kit still not arrive? If the German post would be so slow I probably never would pay for anything in the end because I get the refund before it finally arrives.....

if you pay with PayPal on eBay you have 180 days to get a refund, and on ebay directly it's logically 60 days after the date of receipt :)

I'm never sure what the acceptable responses are for Ebay problems.
If the package is late like that, and you send negative feedback.
Then they offer to refund your money, then the package arrives (ie: exactly how it happened to you)...

Do you change the feedback to positive, and keep the refund money as compensation for the late delivery?
Or should you do you send the money back as well. I never know what to do.

The connectors on the SOIC adapter don't line up because the tiny85 is an SOIJ package. Same pitch, but the body is about 2 mm wider. I made the same mistake, but an SOIC clip works perfectly and more importantly works even after the chip is soldered (they grip onto the body).

Need to be more careful with blacking out numbers and addresses! Got lucky this time!
