The exhaust sounds great. It's not silly to be stoked about having the work done by the creator/designer. Nobody knows their creation better than the original person. Enjoy your GTI!

I went with xforce adjustable exhaust. Really happy with it. No drone whatsoever, affordable, and you can control the valves via cellphone app with different set points for different GPS locations. Might be worth looking into if the noise of the exhaust becomes too much for you.

I personally like it and it sounds good 👍🏼. I had a custom catback on my gti not really quality piping/ bending so when I upgraded to AWE catback it made a difference like if I gained power. It does make a difference on better quality built piping

The new system certainly is a work of art, looks great. The welding shows lovely flow.

The sound at idle is a bit deeper than standard but still not noisy, sounds great.

Nice video log of this exhaust upgrade! I am amazed that despite the vibrant resonator, you are experiencing some drone. I guess that's down to the downpipe (catless I presume), with the stock DP it should be silent. I am running a catted (metal) DP from HJS on my 2013 Mk7 GTI, to maintain Euro 6 emissions as I live in Germany. I replaced the stock catback by the Clubsport S exhaust, meaning middle silencer and rear silencer. It sounds great under load but no droning present which is a big bonus. Myself, I always like to go OEM+, as it maintains the stock look with parts that were engineered extensively. Also because of very strict "MOT" rules, yuo cannot just mount any exhaust, as you will fail the test..

Have you noticed any pedal / floor vibration since coming from the stock exhaust / stock catback?
I have close to your new exhaust in terms of piping / muffler / resonator, but I have this rattle (thinking its the DP), and the floor is rumbly :)

Do they make a catless system?

The sweet spot for me has been the AWE Touring catback with the APR downpipe. The downpipe by itself was unacceptably loud, sounded like a malfunctioning tractor over 3k RPM and had too much drone. Adding the Vibrant 17950 solved for the drone, but the sound left much to be desired. The AWE Touring checked all the boxes: resonated, no airflow restrictions, incredible quality and produces a deep, civil tone while keeping the volume just about right. I'd say the frequency is lower that your setup and a level or two quieter from the outside, with a little less sound making its way into the cabin. The overall best sounding setup for the MK7 GTI I've heard has to be the AWE Touring with the AWE Performance downpipe, though they unfortunately don't make the downpipe anymore (and it was about $2k). I'm glad you found what works well for you and appreciate the detailed video (as always)!

Thanks for posting this video and your feedback on Baun Performance's exhaust . Two days ago I ordered a downpipe and the "less aggressive catback exhaust" from Baun Performance. I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experience, it helped me make up my mind on what and where to purchase. I'm looking forward to installing the down pipe and exhaust on my GTI.

I had to click and watch when I saw that you got an upgraded exhaust. I’m honestly surprised since you are very particular of your car.

Nice and in depth opinion video! In case you are currently wondering if there’s anything you can do to help further curb the exhaust sound in the cabin, look into applying sound deadening materials to the spare tire area and under the rear seat. I was dealing with annoying frequencies in the cabin due to an aftermarket muffler on my 2018 GTI, and laid down some sound deadening materials I found on Amazon. I did the two step process, laying a base material and then another foam material on top. It helped tremendously.

I really would like some more grunt on my MK7 R - I never wanted to go stage 2 (and now it's too late!), so I never did a downpipe. I gave thoughts to cutting out the resonator and going with a straight pipe, so I'm not sure. R valved exhaust is pretty nice already, so I don't NEED to do anything, I just want something a bit more throaty.

Regarding the welding, you can get a nice weld with both stick and MIG - it all boils down to the skill of the welder. I took a welding class a few years ago, and those look like something I did with only a few weeks of experience :P. TIG is tough to master and is an art form - this guy did it really well - you get that "stack of dimes" appearance on the welds. Top notch work.

Matters not what welding machine they use, that's just really bad technique. There are some really good stick welders out there!

Do we need to tuned our mk7 to install this Baum exhaust system?

The best thing to do to figure out if you’ve gained power or if it’s in your head, is to go to a dyno shop, and do dyno runs on the same dyno, with the previous exhaust on it compared to the new one.

Is your car tuned?

Sounds great. I have AWE Touring and CTS catted downpipe on my GLI. The "drone free" AWE exhaust had plenty of drone. I added a vibrant bottle resonator. That made it much better. Still drone, but much more tolerable.
