I have a rule that I never critique another coach's drills. If it works for that coach and his team, more power to him. For me, I'd not want to start my players facing the sideline because we're not going to be closing out from that position. I've found that throwing both arms up in the air disrupts balance and inhibits dribble-drive recovery. So we don't close that way. Though many do. And I don't care for habitualizing leaving the floor defensively on jump shooters. The negative far outweighs the positive in my view.

Always close out with left hand up unless it’s a lefty shooter. Close outs are too slow w/ poor technique. Better off doing a full ct zig zag drill or a slow step slide to build strength in your stance. This drill may seem aesthetically pleasing but it lacks good technique and volume.
