We cannot leave but better not send more troops. The more troops, the more civilian casualties, the more militants, the need for more troops. It is a vicious circle. We need to build the nation so fewer Afghans will want to fight and those that do will be dealt with by Afghanis committed to restoring stability.

Young men are the key to understanding state failure. Whether it is Africa or Asia if they do not see any hope leaders can mobilize them into militant groups. Why on Earth would anyone believe the bizzare take on Islam that the Taliban espouse? The same with Al Qaeda. Why would anyone be a suicide bomber? I think it is hopelessness and anger.

Does Islam state that a person that committs suicide goes to hell? I know that Christian doctrine, if not the Bible, supports this assertion. Not sure about Islam.

But then you have to ask yourself, why are they so hopeless? There's good reason why middle eastern extremists hate the western world, and it's not solely based on religion. The middle east has a been a pool of resources for the western world since WW1 with the Mandate System. Western imperialism has driven these poor people to desperation, since their government are cowards in the faces of foreign oppression. I'm not a Taliban supporter in any way, but I do understand their motives.

You are 100% correct. Chomsky put it best. 1958 was an important year regarding US-Middle Eastern relations. His administration asked why is there such hostility towards the US? They determined that it was because the US supported brutal dictatorships to secure oil. They said they could not counter this claim because it was true. Further, they stated it ought to be true - we need there oil and should support brutal regimes. This is publically available information.

learn your facts before you talk, Islam has existed for less than 13 centuries, and does not throw blame and attack other countries for its failures. Islam's problem is that it associates religion with the state, and combines them as one. Its not hate for the west or other religions, as Islam's history is much more tolerant compared to that of Christianity's, their fear of materialism and non-religious life, as well as ignorance to embrace liberal values is whats wrong with Islam.

They attack to try to prove that god needs to be the most important part of peoples life, a belief we have long known is not true and not beneficial to the people. They aren't all religious fanatics in Islam nations (look at Turkey for example) but it is the religious fanatics that, without international intervention, capture power in these nations and give the entire religion a bad name.

I understand that you live in Afghanistan and have access to the internet and most likely have more understanding of your country than I do, but isn't the Taliban as much of a foreign invader as the Soviets or NATO? They were created by the Pakistani ISI to be a hegemonic force in Afghanistan. Are they not as much a threat to Afghan independence as my country?

There are no decent photos or recordings of him (Mullah Omar), but that's not really hard to believe since the Taliban prohibits the use of western technology (except their weapons of course). By some accounts (if he is real) he wishes to live life by simple means, like Mohammed and his followers - that involves no cameras or tape recorders.

Ответить
@JimmyeDallas
@JimmyeDallas - 21.01.2010 18:54

I know that the Taliban receives the majority of it's funds from it's opium exports; through ridiculous taxes. But it also receives a lot of political influence in the ISI, and thus the Pakistani military is still resistant to massive American pressure.

The leader of the faithful Mullah Umar issued a statement saying they cannot be bough out. A third switched sides (mainly non-pashtuns) when the initial bombs started, a third of them died and a third of thm are left. Those that go 4 the money will be non-pashtuns who have recently joined them because they are winning. I think the Taliban will be successful in the very near future. However I don';t want them to be but that's my view as they are winning so far and haven't given up. Peace

They still collect taxes from the opium farmers, don't be so goddamn naive. The Taliban also prohibits the use of western technology, yet they still use western cameras for propaganda, and western weapons for war. The Taliban is at war, they realize that their archaic principles will get them nowhere fighting against the most powerful military in the world.
