Although the Cockelshell Heroes wereComandoes, the SBS takes things a little further. Well worth looking up the Cockelshell raid in WWII

The Royal Marines trace their origins back to 28 October 1664 when the Duke of York and Albany's Maritime Regiment of Foot was formed at the grounds of the Honourable Artillery Company.
They have always specialised in on Ship and Ship to Shore fighting.
The SBS are the extreme of this and specialise in counter-terrorism A.K.A. You do not want to be a pirate on a British ship unless you are suicidal.

Hi Folks, well done for finding this as there is so little written about the SBS.
Much has been written about the SAS since the Iranian Embassy hostage rescue that it now feels that the SBS is our only real covert special forces.
They did work in mixed teams with the SAS when I served in Iraq and afghanistan as their special forces training is the same up to the point of specialisation.
I did fly in a helicopter with a bunch of them to an oil rig for a hostage exercise, and they are the nicest people you can hope to meet, though they looked more like surfer dudes than military warriors!

The main difference between British Special Forces and those from other countries is that our SF personnel are expected to find their strength from within themselves and so within Selection there is no 'Boss' there is no cadre and there is no shouting or people giving orders. The individual is under test at all times and must come out on top on their own.

Quite a few missions attributed to the SAS were actually carried out by the SBS, and I have the feeling they're quite happy with that, as it protects their anonymity. Similarly there's reports of SAS troopers in Afghanistan wearing US shoulder flashes, so it's quite possible missions attributed to US special forces were actually carried out by the SAS.

Great stuff👍if you would like to see how the SBS operate,I would recommend 'the hijacking of the nave andromeda on the channel Liveth for evermore. This mission happened 4miles from my house,it is a short video but shows what they can do. Take care✌️

You will never know when the SBS or SAS were there because"they weren't". They probably might have been but they weren't.
