It was Rocky’s fault that he died, he should have thrown in the towel the start of the second round

Even knowing what I know about movies (especially 80's action movies), I still can never get over the way the Rocky films had everyone just absorb every single punch with their face without hardly a single block, ever. XD

Watching as a kid, I remember being thinking 'if only he would have thrown in the towel!! Why didn't he throw the towel??' Now I realize it actually wouldn't have done any good, I mean Drago punched the ref for cripes sake so he's not going to stop because of a towel in the ring. But I also realize that Rocky knew that as well. There was no use to throw in the towel. There was nothing he could do.

Let’s be real Drago is getting a manslaughter charge at minimum today. Pushed the ref away who was trying to call the fight and then proceeded to beat a man to death.
Edit: and say that “if he dies he dies” no remorse. Bro is getting locked up lmao

This hits home. Many years ago, I was in a slightly similar situation.
I was an amateur K1 fighter at the time, and made my K1 amateur debut. My first opponent was a Pro MMA fighter, albeit an amateur K1 fighter himself at the time.
I understood who I was going up against, and the danger and risk of fighting such an experienced fighter. When the fight was offered to me, albeit on very short notice - I took it without hesitation.
It was on a very big stage - Europe's biggest K1 stage at the time. The warrior spirit and philosophy within me, if you will, left me no choice but to take the fight. Deep down, I was really afraid.
Afraid of my opponent, his skills, and his tremendous experience in fighting. I understood that my chances of success were likely next to none. It wasn't an easy choice, but I knew that I had to take that fight. If anything - it would give me one hell of an experience. I prepared for it as best I could. I thought about it day and night. At the time - it was an all or nothing mentality.

On the night, my father was in my corner. I fought as an independent fighter at the time and thus represented myself, while my opponent had professional coaches and cornermen with him.
Needless to say - my father was worried about me, but, as a loving and supportive father - he was there with me and stood by my side. As a former fighter and military man, he understood the situation well, and did his best to guide and support me throughout the fight.
The ring walkouts, the music; everything was so intense. Between 1-2K people in attendance. Professional cameras, huge screens, live broadcasting on TV, the lot of it...
Deep down I knew I was not ready for that fight, but I had to make use of that opportunity. You never really know when you get another like it.

The start of the fight (rounds 1 & 2), were something similar to Drago vs Rocky. My opponent was outstriking me and basically put a serious beating on me.
I mainly relied on my footwork and reach, and tried not to let him get too close and grab for the clinches. I tried blocking and evading as much as I could while counterstriking on the back foot.
I took a serious beating nonetheless. Bruised and blooded, I held on and just tried my best, much like Apollo in this case. Needless to say, my opponent's striking was just on another level, and his experience really shined through. At the end of round 2, my father said he's gonna throw in the towel. He saw that I was losing badly, but was able to stay on my feet and retaliate just enough for a stoppage not to be called by the ref. I told him that he is to not throw in the towel under any circumstances, and, if he did - I'd would never forgive him for it. I think it's safe to say that I put him in a similar situation to Rocky and Apollo here, because the beating I took was quite similar to what we see in this video.

Fortunately for me, I wasn't killed in round 3. On the contrary - I somehow managed to focus and just gave it absolutely everything I had within me. Every shred and ounce of strength, energy and sheer will. I just wanted to make my father proud, and earn my opponent's respect. I fought hard, and focused on inflicting some damage. I was now on the front foot, and the round was intense, and I even managed to hurt my opponent and dropped him. The exchanges were pretty hardcore, and that round was a War.

At the end of round 3, all I can recall is a sense of relief. I was glad that it was over. But, above else - I was proud of myself. Proud that I was still standing and went the distance. I wasn't KO'd, I wasn't killed. Sure, I took a beating, but I held my own in the end, and managed to pull through. At that point I didn't even care about winning or losing. It was all about proving to myself that I could go the distance by really testing those deep waters. Needless to say, I lost the fight. But I knew that I earned some respect that night. Not just from my father, but from my opponent and the entire crowd. I simply refused to give up and refused to fall, and I truly fought for what I believed in. It was my cause, and it was my sole purpose on the night.

Sometimes, there really is no easy way out, and you just gotta do what you gotta do. It's as simple as that. Apollo died for what he believed in. He was willing to go to the bitter end for the cause. It was a matter of principle for him, and he was willing to die for it. He died a warrior's death, and went out on his shield.
Was I willing to die the night of my fight? I don't know. I never really thought about it. But, anything could have happened, especially when my father knew not to throw in the towel.
Thankfully, I am alive and well. But, the injuries I sustained that night were serious. It took weeks to fully recover.

Edit: My opponent was Huge. Same muscle mass as Drago, albeit shorter than me in height. He was one scary individual.
Re-watching this scene from Rocky IV really makes me understand the scene so much better and on a deeper level, all these years later.
