aHis friend shared that before his death, he was drunk and crying every day. Sad stuff. Some of Hollywood's greatest stars had extended career ruts that they climbed out of with patience and determination. Richard Gere and John Travolta were punchlines to jokes for years before reinventing their personnas. William Shatner and Burt Reynolds did not have memorable roles for a while, but bounced back. After the King and I, Yul Brynner was almost forgotten until his unforgettable role in Westworld. Tragic that Jonathan didn't believe his return would come.

how could nobody have noticed. it was so obvious. and to think the night he took his life his friends though he was being over dramatic breaks my heart. i wish i could've been there to comfort him and to tell him i was there for him no matter what.

Jonathan is my childhood, I loved every movie he was in and it is so awful that this tragedy ever happened. RIP Jonathan you were loved and appreciated more than you'll ever know.

Those saying this was right before he died are wrong. He is still recognizable here. Seeing pics from the year he died, he looks nothing like he did, no one would have recognized him. The change and the complete emptiness in his eyes gave me chills. RIP.

Wow! You can tell from his expression how miserable he really is. Truly tragic how his career went south as soon as he hit adult years. There was so much Jonathan Brandis could've done, but sadly, he took his own life due to heavy drinking and how broken he really is especially because of his falling acting career.

Suicide is a permanent solution to a short problem. He could make an amazing long successful acting career but he quit, life is not easy but with courage and resilience tenacity any can overcome obstacles and being successful. Please don't quit, life is a gift. Appreciate it.

Well, he doesn't look very good. It is unfortunate that he decided to die early. I read that he was influenced by the death of actor Roy Scheider, probably he treated him like a teacher and took his death too close. It's a pity for both, bright memory. I respect and love them both, they were great on this show

I met Chuck Norris at the George R Brown Convention Center at the Collect-A-Con and shook hands with him and told him how I cherished him in Silent Rage, Sidekicks (with Jonathan Brandis), and in Walker Texas Ranger.

I told Chuck and his wife how terrible and sad it was that 10 years after Sidekicks, that Jonathan Brandis ended up passing away from suicide, and Chuck’s wife told me more than just the depression of Jonathan and his waning career and all, but also the psychiatric medication he was taking along with the alcohol (whether with or without alcohol) was taking so much toll on Jonathan that he had no idea what he was doing, whether he felt suicidal or not. Worst of all, the psychiatric medication company has a disclaimer and used legal to be completely covered, in which they couldn’t be sued, which should be wrong. Chuck told me how much he cherished Jonathan and knows that Jonathan is resting in the everlasting safety in God’s kingdom of Heaven.

All this, also, being why I don’t take psyche meds myself, especially anymore, and never will, and nothing can ever change my mind. More harm than good. Especially psychologically and financially.

I’ve been crying everyday till I found out how he died, it takes up so much of my mind, it just breaks my heart to see how sad he was

I remember my parents telling me and I kinda figured something was up I was in college and read about his issues from insider magazines books ?! He was very depressed and it wasn’t drugs because he didn’t do drugs he did do some weed but weed doesn’t kill you !!!! But he was suffering from bad depression. He was sick in the head in his heart. He was hurting inside and he was seen psychiatrist for whatever happened to him psychologically and, he smoked weed from time to time to try and help him calm down relax but it didn’t help depression, anxiety, stress killed himself commit suicide

Dang loved this guy so sad that he was hurting so bad at a young age. Jonathan will be missed. Such a talented beautiful soul he was. You can see the pain on that handsome face so sad. R.I.P.😢
