Those 340 were, and still are, no joke. Highly under rated.
ОтветитьEat that Chevy boy!
ОтветитьBack in the day a co-worker had a 340 Duster. That car was quicker than you’d think.
ОтветитьThey don`t call it duster for nothing . Traction issues please !
ОтветитьCrock of poop. Let me drive the Chevy. Bye, bye dodge
ОтветитьMy uncle had a duster I had no idea they were that quick
ОтветитьWell, this just gives all the snobby Mopar fanboys one more excuse, to get together for an all night circle jerk.
ОтветитьCan we just get to races
ОтветитьThe 340 is most underrated engine built. It is the best engine for beating big block cars
ОтветитьThe 340 has a shorter stroke and bigger valves 2.05 intake. My 340 72 road runner was beating everyone with big blocks. Not joking.
ОтветитьDriver of the camaro sucks
ОтветитьI know a guy that owned a Hemi Cuda in the 70s , and he said his friends 340 would get him off the line , and give him hell sometimes.
ОтветитьThat 427 pulling strong at top end.
Ответить1/29/2024: Too cold for good traction. On a warm day, the Duster may have gotten "Dusted". But a great car and the 340 was an excellent engine in 1971. The "New Generation" of High Horsepower cars, with the Fat Summer tires don't do well at all in the traction department in cool/cold temperatures. My 2004 Z06 Corvette only likes Warm/Hot asphalt.
As always, Keep up the Great Videos, I like the temperature and humidity notations. Best Regards.
Unless I am missing something, I am not sure that both of these cars are 'pure stock'. The description for the Duster says '(FAST factory stock)' - FAST class cars are Factory Appearing Stock Tire. They can add in huge cams/compression etc - just as long as the outside looks factory. That is 1 fast running '275hp' Duster if I must say so... Either way, it gets down the track quickly - but I would be curious if a true pure stock Duster could run those times.
ОтветитьMopar
ОтветитьClearly, the duster is very far away from stock. A ZL 1 Camaro would normally be over a full second faster in a 1/4, so let's not have deranged thought about the basic capabilities of a 340 duster which stock, is at best a mid 14s car.
ОтветитьCome on. The Camaro is most likely fully stock. The duster is running a full 2 seconds better than out of the box. Its one thing to be mildly modified, another to have done full on race modifications. Idiotic comparison.
ОтветитьTraction and Reaction put money in your bank account. Enjoyed watching both cars run. Just goes to show you run the race for a reason no dyno stat ever won a race, combination of man and machine does.
ОтветитьChevys 😂
ОтветитьI had a friend had a 70 340 duster that beat up 396 s all day long.
ОтветитьYou got me Mopar rules try to beat that new 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT demon 170 1,025 horsepower
ОтветитьEntertaining video to some I'm sure. Just not my cup of tea.
ОтветитьSorry, that Duster is not stock. It may fit into the rules of "pure stock" as far as NHRA goes, but no actual stock 1971 Duster 340 would run 12's. (Before you 'Mopar Or No Car' guys start bitching) Don't get me wrong, I actually like the cars. There is just no comparison to these 2 cars as far as HP goes. If they both had traction....
ОтветитьHahaha !
ОтветитьCome on people. Everyone knows this was a totally miss match. The Camaro was driven by a 72 year old man who only races once a year. He is also trying to shift a 4 sp and he also has slow reaction times. Put equally qualified drivers in both cars and the Camaro would win every time. You have 430 HP running against, maybe 320. The driver of the Camaro said that Automatics are quicker than a 4 sp. this is only true if the driver of the 4 sp doesn’t know how to drive and how to shift.
ОтветитьZL1 vs IRON small block Mopar
ОтветитьNo way that duster was stock. That kind of result with those power to weight numbers don't even remotely work out from a math perspective. Either that or that 340 was HIGHLY underrated from the factory.
ОтветитьI miss my 340 Duster. I called it the little engine that could.
Ответитьput slicks on them cars and the camaro all day. dusrer 340 shocked me with passes
Ответить340 really made from 310 hp to 325 look it up I know I owned a 340 70 swinger
ОтветитьI owned a 1970 Duster 340 which I bought used in1971. That car surprised a lot of people on the street.
ОтветитьI owned a 340 Duster, 4-speed, w/3.91 sure grip diff. I was able to beat most cars in a race. My car came alum wheels and zero options which got the weight down to about 3100 lbs.
ОтветитьThe 340 was called the Giant killer for a reason.
ОтветитьI don't know what he did to that duster but it will go he should not have been able to take that Camaro that Camaro had a set of slicks on it I looked at the mouth flower on a Camaro that was that horsepower coming in
ОтветитьNot pure stock should be the name of this class. 340 not stock and anyone crazy enough to actually drag race a zl1 probably just has a replica.
ОтветитьCome on too much nonsense. Otherwise love the content.
ОтветитьWhenever he adjusts cost for inflation it sends me into a mental hurricane of anger knowing what the government took from us.
ОтветитьThat duster aint stock.
ОтветитьTo run a 12.2 @ 3280lbs that 340 must have 350whp according to a 1/4 mile calculator, 1.86, so maybe 😂 if it pulled 1.77 one coupd call it less power than that. The calculator called it 400hp at the crank. That's an aweful lot of "extra" power being called stock. Those are numbers Vipers were published as running in the mid 90s.
ОтветитьWith a 2200 rpm stall speed limit that ZL1 would be a turd outta the whole with an auto.
I dont care who would/did win, at least these guys are out ther ehaving fun not arguing like some 7 yr olds
I'm sorry, but something is way iff in that Camaro besides traction. That thing should WALK that 340 like a dog! I'm a Mopar guy, ive had several fairly hot small block Dusters.
ОтветитьNOT SURE HOW U RUN 13.1 110 THEN A 12.68 AND PICKUP 5MPH. U NEED TO ADD SLICKS AND OPEN HEADERS TO PICK UP 5MPH AND 4 TENTHS
ОтветитьYeah, but the Camaro looks so much prettier.
ОтветитьPut slicks on these cars.
ОтветитьAs the driver of the Camaro, let me say that Paul in the Duster, is a class act and his car is very well sorted out for Pure Stock racing. At 72 years young I am just having fun and enjoying life. I didn't build my Camaro from the ground up to be a Pure Stock 'top dog' - I don't race regularly - in fact I only race once a year at this event. 4-speed cars are overall not as fast as the automatics and my car is a 4-speed. I am number 11 on the all time fastest list, but maybe not on the most consistent list. There were 3 4-speed cars in the top 20 cars this year. Then the ZL-1 has a double-pumper carb, all the others have vacuum secondary carbs - and yes contestants use that to 'tune' their cars launch - my right foot is the only tune for my secondaries. One of the contestants told me his car picked up 6 tens of a second going to an automatic transmission, but I will just stay with the 4-speed as for now I just play around once a year. I'm not a drag racer, never was a drag racer, but I invite all of you to come try it. Put 500 lb/ft of torque to the ground on F70-14 tires with 4.10 gears and a 4-speed and a double pumper carb. It ain't all that easy when you only do it once a year. Congratulation again to Paul in the Duster - lots of the racers respect him and his abilities.
