I saw GE play with Bob Dylan in 88. The most Professional concert I've ever seen! Big solid finishes to every single number.
ОтветитьHe sucked
ОтветитьSaw GE at the bottom line he was hall and oats guitar player ,
ОтветитьIncredible taste and tone. I always enjoyed these breaks.
ОтветитьMy childhood mostly sucked, but we had some damn good things in the late 80's/early 90's. Peak SNL was one of them.
ОтветитьWithout me really realizing it, G. E. Smith and the Letterman band's Sid McGinnis were huge influences on me.
ОтветитьNo ego 🍀
ОтветитьWhat was his guitar that was shaped like the USA? I love the 52 Telecaster.
ОтветитьStevie Ray Vaughn on bass guitar?
Ответитьbass guitarist thinks he's Stevie Ray
ОтветитьI was a bit too young at the time to appreciate how good this band was. All these years later, I would time machine back and buy a ticket to SNL just to watch G.E. Smith and his band play.
ОтветитьI always hated how you never got to see the band's full performances because of the commercials. You'd only get snippets.
ОтветитьRip T-Bone
ОтветитьThe solos were nothing special.
CLICK BAIT!
Excellent video , that last one him playing the 58 V . he was workin it.
ОтветитьLast one was pretty good. The rest were plain old simple.
ОтветитьG.E. could never play and sing at the same time. Thousands of part-time musicians all over the world could show this guy up easily.
ОтветитьGive the the original Not Ready For Prime Time Players, any day…
ОтветитьIt's crazy that the house band was this good and nobody talks about it because the show was actually funny
ОтветитьG. E. can play...
ОтветитьBest years of the SNL band - when GE Smith was the bandleader. The band had an actual face back then. A specific identity and presence.
ОтветитьDeez guys r tight af.
ОтветитьImagine the coke after parties back in that day.
ОтветитьHe toured with Hall and Oates and during the entire concert he would throw his guitar into the rafters above stage, catch it, plug it in, and crank out a solo.
I was in awe.
GE himself says he's not a brilliant player, but he was the right player for the SNL band. You don't want someone like Alan Holdsworth in that gig; you want a competent guitarist who can play accessible music with attitude for a general audience.
He got the band leader gig because of his relationship with Gilda Radner, and he talked about having imposter syndrome for a while after starting, but he eased into the role and grew to realize he had something to bring to the table. The band seemed blander after his tenure ended.
"GE SMITH smiling 10 seconds at a time"
(Is a More Appropriate Title)
Yes hes a very good guitar player
Relax!
Good video
GE Smith and Lenny Picket - just incredible . Another reason why that era of SNL was ultimately the best.
ОтветитьLenny Pickett is the man
ОтветитьI heard some Mike Bloomfield. GE Smith is and was just badass
ОтветитьHe helped make Hall & Oates great. John Hall didn't play the great guitar parts
ОтветитьYou guys are easy to impress. Brilliance?
ОтветитьLorne Michaels now keeps the house band in the dark...too bad
ОтветитьWhat is the third song?
ОтветитьGE Smith and the SNL Band with Buddy Guy!!!!!! What an album
ОтветитьLooks like Willem Dafoe
ОтветитьNico McBrains guitar playing is incredible!
ОтветитьI loved watching GE play with so much passion 🙏🏾💕
ОтветитьAlways good to see LP wailing away on that tenor.
ОтветитьLike a lot people watching SNL back then, when these short ten second bursts of musical magic came on I would be saying, "Don't go to the commercials -- I want to hear more GE Smith and the SNL band!"
ОтветитьEven if the sketches were not so funny, the band has always being consistently good all the way. G E Smith and Tom Wolk on the bass played really good together.
ОтветитьI don’t think the SNL band and GE ever released an album? Such a pity. They were amazing!
ОтветитьWhen did Stevie Ray Vaughn switch to bass? 😂
ОтветитьI watched SNL just for the band. SNL should go back to being funny and having good music instead of promoting hatred and division.
ОтветитьFor just ONE episode, SNL should feature the HOUSE BAND as the musical guest!
ОтветитьOnly Keif looks cooler than GE Smith
Ответитьomg real live nyc drivn music
ОтветитьLast time I heard from him he was playing bass for Roger Waters on his wall tour
Ответить
