I actually had the HP Touchpad when I was a kid. My brother worked at a electronic shop where they put it on sale for 99€ and he managed to get one for me. I used this thing every single day. I absolutely loved it!!

IRT: Snowflake hack. It's not really snowflake's fault as it is the customers who didn't secure their passwords.

The Cybertruck motor "non-recall" should totally be a recall because it's already been proven to fail IN THE RAIN.

This list highlights 13 embarrassing tech failures, including McDonald’s AI-assisted voice ordering system, the Optimus Maximus keyboard, and the One Laptop Per Child initiative. These failures showcase the challenges and risks associated with innovative technologies, despite their potential benefits. Despite some successes, such as the Elgato Stream Deck, others, like the Rabbit R1, failed to meet expectations due to limitations and security concerns.

HP’s Touchpad tablet failed due to its slow and clunky interface, while the Morris worm caused significant damage to early internet systems. Tesla’s Cyber Truck has faced numerous recalls and software issues, while Concord, a PlayStation Studios game, failed to attract players due to its unappealing character designs and lack of marketing.

Despite significant investments, several high-profile companies faced embarrassing failures due to cyber attacks, software errors, and human mistakes. These incidents resulted in substantial financial losses and raised concerns about the reliability of technology. Despite efforts to prevent the Y2K bug, some systems still experienced issues, highlighting the importance of thorough testing and maintenance.

Also ignore the haters on X you’re still awesome!

CrowdStrike is not just Windows but other operating systems also.
A couple of months prior to the Windows outages caused by CrowdStrike, a similar issue happened on Linux systems. A faulty update was pushed. From what I understand, it was easier recovered.
My Windows laptop was one of the systems that was BSOD by CrowdStrike. Booting up in safe mode also BSOD the system. I had to start command prompt from the recovery screen, and rename the CrowdStrike sys file to get in. Not to mention the issue with recovery keys for drive encryption (BitLocker) needed to do these tasks. This was prior to the fix being released, oh yea... We got notified about the fix by email that would have been on the BSOD system.
From what I heard, take this as a rumors... There are smaller companies that could not get back into their systems due to BSOD happening on their encrypted AD servers that stored their BitLocker keys. They had to end up restoring their whole environment loosing over a week of work.

The whole Y2K thing is a perfect example of a global crisis paradox. If no action was taken, there would have been a global crisis BUT because they were successful in preventing the crisis from happening, most people assumed the threat wasn't that serious when not much went wrong at midnight. The problem was so well dealt with that it made it look like it was never even an issue.

Something worth considering, for hacker groups. Usually they do make good on their promise to delete the data that they breached for a certain amount of money. This is because if they weren't honest about deleting it, and leaked it anyways, companies would learn from this and would never again pay ransoms. In which case the hackers would never make money agan, unless they sold to black market buyers very cheap. Hackers usualy aren't out to wreak havoc and cause problems for citizens, they just want money from big corportations. It's in their best interest to not give companies a reason to not trust them.

I thought Apple was kinda weird for forbidding all apps from running in the kernel space, compared to Windows and Linux. Come the CrowdStrike Falcon disaster where macOS was the only operating system to not be brought to its knees when Falcon was installed, and I suddenly get why. Even Microsoft's been talking with devs about giving them new tools so they don't have to run in Windows's kernel space.
