Apologies for the poor sound quality. The mic stopped working but the show had to go on. A big thank you to Dimbulukeni from Haimetu Media for capturing the moment. Another thank you to Radical Poetry, Namibia for the platform. Please be so kind as to give credit when representing my work in any shape or form. Ase

WE BLACKS
WE have become uncertain of ourselves as a black people
The injury of inferiority complex is more than meets the eye
As we pass on physical, mental, emotional, social, sexual and oh! spiritual characteristics of colonial oppression from one generation to another.
As WE genetically disposition ourselves in this race called the human race

From birth WE massage the noses of our children to fix what is not broken.
WE give them colonial first names and patriarchal last names.
Affirming that not only are we slaves but our children too.
Then we go on to teach them how to translate words and phrases from foreign languages into our mother tongues instead of vice versa.
Claiming that WE do not want them to get left behind
Thinking that WE have become successful parents,
and in our old age when our children fail to communicate with us in any other language that is not English, French, Arabic, German or Portuguese
WE ask ourselves where did we go wrong

WE define our beauty based on Eurasian standards as
WE bleach our skins, contour our noses, relax and extend the lengths of our hair
With the intent to emulate anything but black beauty
WE make ourselves look like other women without realizing that what
WE are actually doing is conditioning our black men to prefer other women
Then WE go on to embrace our naturally full lips and curved hips,
Only when it is to objectify ourselves as sex symbols.

WE emasculate our black men by telling them that they should be more like other races.
More romantic, more in touch with their feminine side
Forgetting that a responsible black man is the epitomy of romance
Like when WE slow dance to that Boys II Men
Knowing that his mother raised a boy into a man
So instead of encouraging ourselves to be the best black version of ourselves
WE breed feelings of discontent that compromise our abilities to appreciate one another
Instead of encouraging them to be better

WE know more about CHRISTianity Islam and every other religion than we do about our OWN Afrikan SPIRITuality
We integrate and whitewash at the expense of our way of life
As our fathers and mothers SHOW us how to fit in
Schools and other institutions TEACH US how to fit in
Our leaders, well they TELL US that WE must fit in
All WE do is try to fit in that WE have forgotten how to stand out
WE make ourselves so small that WE are unable to achieve greatness.
We believe that WE are only as important and only as successful the further away from being black.
WE think that white is right forgetting that white only came right because WE came first - Dingi yemwene
