seeing dofus brought up without knowledge of the reboot game waven or its anime wakfu is WILD, also i think dofus recently got an official mobile port, as for the suggestive designs, from what ive seen of wakfu, just seems to be how the french roll with kids media
ОтветитьOMG PANFU
Ответитьi blame it all on girlsgogames!! woozworld imvu ourworld (ourworld fucked hard) & roblox were my stuffff
ОтветитьI've been trying to find that mmo for years 'club Marian' was LITTERALLY a huge pdfild ring it's crazy to me that it's recognized in this video, I've never seen this features in a video before but I have very strong memories of playing it not having a clue what to do so i just drove around and talked to people but i cant count on both hands how many times i got asked "how old are you?" Followed by all kinds of sexual suggestions. I was 10 at the time maybe younger. Crazy how this game was so big once filled with some "weird" people 🤔such a strange little website that we all have memories of playing on 🥲although the dress up games were it!
Ответитьi used to lie about my age as a kid, so i think that's why predators avoided me. however i once tried to flirt with a teenage boy while pretending i was 25. i was 13 and didn't realize how gross that was. glad he stopped replying, because i feel bad for it now.
ОтветитьI loved our world omg
ОтветитьI'm here because of the little blue creature in the thumbnail. Wow, of course, there'd be a Pet Society rip-off. I miss Pet Society so much and it sucks that most of the photos I took in-game just can't show themselves anymore, so I downloaded all the ones that are still up.
ОтветитьI played ourWorld since 2010/2011 and can shine on some missed aspects in the video.
The biggest draw for membership on ourWorld was hosting events and trading. You couldn't list things on the Marketplace unless you were a Resident or a Zoe's, and if you were a Resident you'd have to pay gems to list things (free for Zoe's, which is why people bought it even though it was a lot more expensive. Those marketplace fees added up quickly for active traders.) Most of the events were for trading, fashion shows, or dating, and only members could host events that everyone could see (free members could only host events for friends.)
ourWorld was way way more of a trading game (similiar to Animal Jam) than anything, at a certain point most of the people who logged on only did so to check their trade requests. A lot of the fun features went away due to death of Flash (a lot of the things you can to on ourWorld were quests that were based around the large library of Flash games they hosted on the site) and once it went down, it was much more difficult to level up (most of the free levelling was done through playing games and doing quests.)
ourWorld was really prone to being hacked (but from what I saw, not in any meaningful way like the way that WoozWorld was constantly hacked for currency and rare items), but honestly it seemed way more likely that they just didn't want to completely rebuild a game from scratch that had a dying fanbase anyways. Flash took away most of the features and they just didn't want to fill those gaps. There was a HUGE black market for selling rare items for USD, but I also don't think that's why it shut down either.
FlowPlay (the company who made it) turned all their efforts to an adult clone of the game, VegasWorld, which kept the artstyle and some game features of ourWorld, but is exclusively a casino and chat/dressup game for adults. It's extremely successful, even with a small fanbase, because they're targetting people with a lot of disposable income who don't have as high of standards when it comes to online games. I think ourWorld will come back in some shape or form, but unlikely in the way it was before because a lot of similiar games are also struggling to stay open.
I remember club penguin & movie star planet as well as an obscure french one called blabland. This one was fiiiiiiiire and I got to make a ton of friends on this website. It's dead now and all the "remakes" are super shady. :(
Last part about the obscure side is so true though. At this point most poeople who I know who's been a child on the internet ended up groomed in a way or another. Child security is such an overlooked issue for a lot of those virtual world and it's a shame. That's why as a lot of people said good sex aid - starting with security, consent, and asking for help from adults as soon as something seems off - is extremelly important from a young age. Make it known it's not the child's fault if anything off happens and they have to talk about it and not internalize it. Not blame children for what they've seen or what happened on the internet but talk about it with them, reassure them, create a safe place for them to understand the world they are evolving in.
Watching this and it’s 2 in the morning. I just finished crying because I felt lost or the only one who experienced games that no longer exist. I guess I wasn’t that good or explored enough on girlsgogames mmo games because most of these, I haven’t played but vaguely remember first experiences. Dive in was my all time favorite go to. Me and my cousins would take turns on the computer and all been asked to asl-it was a common question when you first logged on. Back then it was so popular, I remember asking what that means and the guy said it would be better if we did it over a phone call. Told me I can be his sweet princess. I didn’t know what to feel about that, I just knew calling a stranger was unacceptable.. As for switchin I feel like I played before if not a similar game with slight better quality. Similar chat rooms except the whole love hearts room— courtyard and clubroom seemed familiar/similar. I really don’t recognize the avatar quality though-
As for games unrelated to girlsgogames connection—
I was young playing imvu, I believe around 9-11 years old. I loved joining safari chat rooms or any themed place with interactive positions. I’ve been lured on 2 occasions to chat privately in their places. It definitely exposed me to some things and I knew it was wrong but was afraid of exiting the chat or feeling pressured/manipulated and then overwhelmed to log out. First occasion the guy had a nice flat but had many sexual duo poses packages from the shop. Told me to take me clothes off or put on my swimsuit. We were at the pool and the interactions was very rated Mature and then moved to the bedroom. Everything felt long and inescapable at the time but it honestly happened so quickly. It’s not like you can move around-just a single click of an accessible button in the chat rooms. He told me he would give me credits if I did more things with him but I had to go to another game and that’s when I left. 2nd time I was in a jungle room and that’s when I saw the most furries, or the cool players with body altering customization. A guy standing next to me started to chat and invited me separately to one of his personal rooms. Only this time he straight up asked how old I was and my hair color-how I look, shape of my eyes— always complimented after I answered. I then told him It was silly to me because it wasn’t a picture he can compliment much on and he said he can send a picture of him so I can tell him how handsome he is. I highly doubt what I was going to see was something anyone would be prepared for. This guy sent a link to a singular picture-a naked man in a selfie form with a “I just came” face while holding his hot dog with cum dripping all over his hand. I wrote in all caps what in the world is he showing me and why would he show me that. I logged out completely and the next time I got on the user blocked me. I can’t remember what he distinctly looked like but it definitely was a common college white boy face. Late 20s or mid 30s- I just can’t shake the constant perverted and trauma to sexual harassment/assault in my life. These are just one of many childhood pedophile trauma experiences I’ve gone through.
I always played alone because no one I knew played or just didn’t know how to add friends or keep the same log in. This often made me seem vulnerable I assume-being alone or not talking in the public chat.
NOT NICK DOMINATES GIRLLL LMAOOO
ОтветитьSwitchIn raised me, and I'm so happy to see it on this list. It played a huge role in me expressing my gender identity and sexuality pre and post puberty. Club Marian and BoomBang were as well, but I frequented SwitchIn the most because I loved the character and world designs (they didn't always have those freakish semi-realistic faces, they used to be exclusively cartoon-y) and because most of the content was free. Sign up was easy, too, with no e-mail verification and a guest mode. I spent so much time being bullied, bullying, cybering, trolling, and just trying to get attention and become popular. I even frequented the game's forum, which was very poorly moderated, and experienced most of the bullying because I was posting pictures of myself (I wasn't one of the Cool and Famous players).
ОтветитьOmg I loved our world it was wild how big bullying was and don’t even get me started on the “e dating” that was so prevalent. It’s sad to see the game be gone I would go play it occasionally
ОтветитьI need to know the correlation between Dofus and Wakfu, there's gotta be one
ОтветитьThe Panfu section unlocked a memory I didn't know I had.
Ответитьhow many aura points do i lose if i admit i cried within the first 5 minutes
ОтветитьPET PARTY
Ответитьthis video healed me. knowing that there’s other people out there who played these games too. I legit saw SWITCHIN MMO on the thumbnail and fell over. LMAO
I’ve played nearly the majority of the games here. 😭🤣
Finally someone talking abour maid marian and switchin ;-;
Ответитьomggg i played gourmet ranch daily, i miss that game
ОтветитьI loved panfu
Ответитьthe custom earrings and makeup slayyyyy but seeing you get emotional at the end made my heart ache. I realized that growing up poor and not having access to any sort of electronic be it the new iPhone 4s, an MP3 player, or even a gaming console, saved me from some of these interactions. I only played Animal Jam, MSP, and Roblox (as far as MMOs) anytime I went to Boys&Girls Club after school so my time playing these games was limited being you couldn't stay on for long and had to swap and let other kids use the computers and I'd do other things like play outside, how we used to back in the day.
ОтветитьI remember playing club Marian when i was 7 years old. Someone asked me for my address and school. And i gave it, (cut me some slack i was a kid). At that point my dad came in the room and saw it. Needless to say i was banned to play any mmos from then on and got my bum whooped 😂. Thankfully nobody came to my house and school lol.
ОтветитьI was friends with a girl who was a few years older than me when I was like 9 and I remember her showing me this website and telling me she made it. I did believe her, I wish I could call her out on it to this day 😔
ОтветитьI loved switchin mmo
ОтветитьI remember playing ourworld and imvu omg
ОтветитьOMG DID YALL FORGET MSP? MOVIESTARPLANET?? that used to be my shit omggg
ОтветитьWhats the name of the game in the thumbnail the girl with cat ears and the one with a tail it was a specific game wasn't mentioned here.. I remember it really well same open world consept with characters, cars, night clubs etc.
ОтветитьI put this video on to help me fall asleep but wow… i was watching the whole time. You did an excellent job, even without playing the games urself (sadly, i was an avakin life user who was taken to kik) thank you for the compassion while talking about these things.
💕I loved ur editing, ur style, and ur voice!!! Earned my follow am I'm honestly excited to see what else u have!
profoundly baller opening monologue? I wish more people went hard like that about the slow death of art and creativity and presented it in such unambiguous terms. Funny, the longer it goes on and the more ubiquitous the intentional slaughter of creativity becomes in all fields the less people seem to notice the negative space being passed off as art. personally the eagerness in which everyone seems to have adopted the term "content" without any critical analysis on what reducing all creative ventures to such a horrid, corporate term might do to our view of such things has been my mascot for cultural decay as a whole.
Thank you for taking the time to thoughtfully explore and analyze bits of our shared childhood without much need to represent it as something it either was not or is not. It's cool to simply observe and learn the history of how something came to be and compare it to what exists in it's place now, how one things builds on another, particularly in relation to things we often consider "silly".
O MG I WAS PLAYING MAPLESTORY JUST NOW WHEN YOU MENTIONED IT. SPOOKY.
ОтветитьDoes ANYONE else remember clicking around GirlsGoGames and finding the alien game that was quite literally just a NSFW game??? I was very upset when I clicked on the little green alien to be greeted by that
ОтветитьLoved the video, really good retrospective on the topic! I played a lot of these types of kid mmos, many that were not mentioned here but some that were. I was lucky to not encounter the problems you address later in the video, but I did know they were happening. I think that's part of what kept me (mostly) safe.
ОтветитьOh goddess.. IMVU Jr...
ОтветитьYES OURWORLD YESSSS i miss that game so muchhh
ОтветитьIf schools would actually teach NECESSARY topics, it would include internet safety for minors, especially when they are interacting with strangers. Kids want to do grown up things so badly, so they'll keep finding ways to do it. Parents also need to be educated in being advocates for child victims.
ОтветитьThis makes me so glad I was too shy and socially awkward to ever join an mmo *shudder*…except ToonTown but I never got far in that because of the paywall lol
Ответитьi love the aesthetic of club marian
ОтветитьGirls had fun MMOs to experience. I'm ok with only playing boy games
ОтветитьMy sister and I were both avid players on ourworld and I'm thankful for it because I made a life long irl friend as a result, but ut definitely had it's creepy side if you weren't careful. Thankfully I mostly got on for the games and it was definitely sad to find it barely functioning before they took it all down, but if there's one less avenue for predators to take advantage of, then I can live with that
ОтветитьI remember Club Marian! So much nostalgia.
ОтветитьDOFUS MENTIONNED
Ответитьthe mention of Sherwood hit my brain with some of the most intense time warp whiplash I've experienced, I haven't had a conscious thought about that game in nearly two decades
Ответитьim so glad someone else remembered the Club Marian MMO. I used to play it all the time and do wolf or eeveelution rp in it, nothing ever got too crazy, and i dont remember having any weird interactions but I had fun and have fond memories of it's weirdness.
ОтветитьThank you for acknowledging what happens when a kid with supervised Internet access is supervised by bigots. I keep seeing "parents should just moderate what their children do online!" suggested as a pancea for these situations (usually by people who are contributing to the culture that allows predators to thrive and are trying to deflect) but as a trans kid who grew up with transphobic parents I know that's not always the safer option! My Internet use wasn't heavily scrutinized by the time I started seriously questioning things (thank God) but I was still terrified of what would happen if my parents found out. (And access to information is also important for people who aren't allowed to even consider leaving their religion)
ОтветитьA couple games were omitted from this retrospective; the ONRPG games (DOMO, Fly for Fun, Fairyland, Fiesta Online) were included in a version of the MMO tab that had a slightly different URL than the one I was pulling from, and so I didn’t realize they were there until it was too late.
Stardoll isn’t in this video because 1. I intend to make a video about Stardoll eventually and 2. I have beef with Stardoll and would like to have to think about and look at it as little as possible.
Finally, thank you all so much for 100k subscribers! This is a huge milestone for me and it means so much to me that, with your help, I was able to achieve this in just over a year of running this channel. Thank you all so much; I look forward to what the future has in store!
