Who is this guy? Obviously not the brightest bulb on the tree. If he knew the whole story he would have known that the Cavett show was the cool place to appear, ask John Lennon! The reason CS&N went on so late is because it rained most of the day and that pushed the schedule. This guy whoever he is should shut up and show some respect. If not for these people he would be even more of an asshole.

Yeah, the Cavett show was very big at the time hosting the likes of Lennon, Harrison, Hendrix and CSNY and Jefferson Airplane after those two bands got back from Woodstock, still in their muddy clothes.

The actual definitive version, for the next few years after Woodstock was by Matthews Southern Comfort (no relation to the liqueur)

The interview Joni gave in 1981, she said she was stuck at Laguardia airport. Seemed to her she was forgotten about. That's when she wrote Woodstock. Her original version is slightly different than the CSN version that became famous.

I've heard of the Dick Cavett show. It was huge. Millennials are culturally illiterate.

What? The Cavett show was big at the time and really plenty of people thought Woodstock was going to be a flop. If you remember anything about Woodstock know that it surprised everybody. Heck, every film made about the event made the comment about the overwhelming number of people who just showed up.

We all agree that Joni Mitchel's "Woodstock" was a great song at the time, but Woodstock's Anthem really was Jimi Hendrix's rendition of the Star Sprangled Banner. That one really stood out and everybody remembers it till this day.

According to an early '90s interview Mitchell states that David Crosby and Graham Nash were supposed to take her to Woodstock in their Helicopter but left early without her 😅

The Crosby, Stills Etc version is crap .
Joni's is, of course, great, but get a load of Richard Thompson's version at one of Joni's Tribute Concerts.
He turns it into an Anthem for our time.
If you watch it on YT, Joni gives him a standing ovation!!
