I guess the only drawback is that it's not touchscreen
ОтветитьWell done, and of course one question. How can you charge that old phone when it is connected to the monitor? After an all day cruise, I imagine the phone will lose its charge.
ОтветитьDo they make seaworthy monitors?
ОтветитьHi, great idea to use such a solution to mirror your phone on a screen. Are you able to use it as a touchscreen with Navionics or do you control it from your phone? So in other words does the touchscreen respond on finger inputs or is that only possible on your phone with a mirrored image on the 15 inch screen?
ОтветитьHey Ed, great video but i encourage You to use gloves and safety glasses on that type of proyects
ОтветитьI saw you a few years ago, and watched some of your early videos. I don't know if it's because you were a politician before or something else, but you did then and still currently give off strong creep vibes. I hope you never end up in a slip next to me. I've never yet been wrong about these feelings. I'd be curious how estranged you are from your family. Almost be willing to bet they are embarrassed to be related to you.
ОтветитьCool idea with the screen. Is the monitor resolution greater than the phone? In other words, will it upscale or is it just - bigger?
ОтветитьWhat are you using for Wi fi on your boat?
ОтветитьLove the tablet idea but how does it work 80 miles offshore with no wifi?
ОтветитьNice but not waterproof
ОтветитьLovely idea with the 15" monitor. However, for navigation it will still be dependent on the phone for the essential GPS signal. And far enough from shore the phone can not provide a GPS signal. So...options are then either a separate GPS receiver to another USB port, or buy a tablet that has a GPS signal built in. Correct?
ОтветитьYour still idoits Just stop talking😅
ОтветитьCurious how those monitors work in the day light ? Can you read the screen
ОтветитьGreat idea
ОтветитьYou may want to consider a different phone like a newer one. As phones become older the batteries don’t age well. And in extreme cases they turn in a fire risk. I would look in to a cheap new phone that is specked the same
ОтветитьFrom one procrastinator to another.... ...... ...... ...... ....... ummmmm. ...... .... ...... ........ ... ........ ........ ...... .... ... ......... uummmmmmm..... ..... . ........ ...... ....
ОтветитьWould you be able to play music through this and the phone, or do you have to buy another device?
Ответитьyou seem up on computing nav stuff. suggestions yu might have for a complete novice. I am in middle Tennessee getting a boat ready may use within next two years to float down to the Gulf go out and fish a bit. Thinking radar, sonar, fish finder, navigation and radio but all linked in. Is that a possibility? And kinds that are best invest?
ОтветитьWow who needs a iPad Pro for over £2000. When phones are just as powerful and for £100 you can get one of those. Very impressed thank you. Thanks for sharing Ray K UK 🇬🇧 YNWA.
ОтветитьWouldm't that drain your airtime? also is that a touch screen?
ОтветитьSkip ahead 10 minutes until there’s discussion about the monitor.
ОтветитьJust stumbled across this! What an awesome idea!
ОтветитьIt’s a Niuto 14 inch touch screen from amazon:
4K Portable Touch Monitor Travel Screen Second Touchscreen Extender UHD USB C Computer Gaming for Laptop 14.0 Inch 3840 X 2160 IPS Compatible with Mac,MacBook,Nintendo Switch
i bought one that is touch screen way more convenient! thanks for sharing!
Ответитьwhat was that gps module we could hook up to a laptop and use with open source software to make a charter plotter too? I've found and lost again. Could anyone help? Thnk you.
ОтветитьHow to you interface sonar?
Ответитьwhere did you get this screen at and what cord will allow my phone to be viewed on that screen is there a program that has to be downloaded to the phone?
Ответитьthey got a rasberry pi 8gb ram model out now good for open cpn. gonna be building a system myself using that. gonna use nmea 2000 and seatalk adapters as well. can setup ais as well.
ОтветитьCheck also BBN Marine OS for raspberry pi4. Many free and opensource boat software packages preinstalled and preconfigured.
ОтветитьThank you.
ОтветитьIf you have let your bow get that bad... And then you decide it is a good ideal to destroy your forward bulkhead, and...
Yeah you are definitely pretending...
Great idea, now I just have to see if I can find a monitor that’s bright enough. I know that when I was looking at tablets they measured brightness in nits, so I’m on looking for some thing that has brighter than 600 nits, my iPhone 12 has around 800 nits and looks great but it is a little small so if I could find a monitor that had similar brightness at 15 inches or even 12 inches that would be great. Thanks for the idea
ОтветитьDo you have any ideas on how to couple your monitor to the nmea2000 network? I have the same problem with my windlass. Too old to repair. time to buy a new one.
ОтветитьHi,
How to connect your sonar on it, how to connect your radar on it. Which chart are you using?
Kr,
I didn't this for inside the cabin. Its a nice TV to kickback and watch plus can watch the cameras to be able to see whats going on outside
ОтветитьHi Ed,
my name is Uwe from Germany.
Thanks a lot for the nice videos you share with us.
I struggled over it while searching for intresting solutions for my Bayliner 275 here in Germany. Well the boat runs in Beglium, which ist jaust near my home. Anyhow I would like to write to you today, as I had nearly the same idea as you had with the monitor. BUT I didn't like the need to touch the small mobile surface for settings or Apps to open. After searching and trying a lot I found a solution that does it all-in-one!!! It is the "V7 L156TCH-1G 15.6" USB-C Portable Touch Screen Monitor". It has all the features you told us about PLUS the possibility to touch the large screen to use all mobile functions. So it is a true display mirror of my mobile. and that ist really the best I ever saw as solution. You may use every App on the mobile when ever you want behind the streering wheel of your boat - incl. WhatsApp....
Best regards, from good old Germany and "always a hand's breadth of water under the keel" as we say here. ;o)
1 problem you didn't address is that your phone needs to be charging too.. if it can't be charged wireless you will need to disconnect the screen to charge the phone..
ОтветитьThis is such a great idea. I dont have a boat anymore but will again in the future... after the kids get through college. I'll go with a touchscree panel so I don't have to mess with the phone much. Don't know why I didn't think ove this already. Lol. Subed
ОтветитьOnly thing I see is your old phone don’t you have to have that phone active on an account. I’m thinking about the same type of thing I would like 2 chart plotter screens.
ОтветитьWere did you get the brackets from that hold the monitor 🤔
ОтветитьDo you have a link for tablet, does it have GPS in tablet.
ОтветитьWhy is this the wrong video?
ОтветитьCan you tie your depth and radio into the screen as well. Thank you
ОтветитьWhy not just get a cheap tablet?
ОтветитьBut that monitor doesn't have touch input.
ОтветитьHow do you get sonar data on the monitor? I don't believe my old E120 has video out.
ОтветитьGreat idea ! Thanks for sharing .
Ответитьdoes the phone charge via 15 monitor ?
Ответить
