New Kia Sportage vs Hyundai Tucson & Ford Kuga review: which is the best family SUV?

Why not test 3 persons in the back. I got three kids and the backseat is very important for me.

I have the Kuga ST-Line. No regrets, the handling especially is excellent. My wife had new Sportage for a courtesy car recently, simply horrid handling compared.

While big displays look amazing, it just stupid to move controls to a display which hinders your driving - you have no feel for the controls, you have to look elsewhere. Manufacturers should be ashamed of themselves since they chose to follow those idiotic Teslas.

It's amazing how you're missing (perhaps) the most important point -- reliability. The Kuga uses a Mazda L Family (pre SkyActiv-G) 2.5 litre naturally aspirated engine, with indirect port fuel injection at that -- meaning no or minimal carbon deposits on the intake valves! Also, the gearbox is a (poorly named) eCVT, not unlike Toyota's box, built like a tank. The Sportage/Tucson use a direct-injected 1.6 litre turbo petrol engine and a planetary gearset with electric synchro instead of the torque converter. All of these differences become critically important once the cars are out of warranty.
L.E. Oh, and we get a 9-year warranty on the Kuga, in our part of Europe at least. Picking up my Graphite Tech PHEV in 2 weeks or so.

Well don’t have any of them. Got a Hyundai Kona 2022 petrol hybrid. Suits my needs. Seldom carry people in the back seats nor need a vast amount of boot space. Get decent MPG if you drive carefully and gently. Same could be said of any car. Has a decent amount of poke if you want to speed along. Just got back from a journey and achieved 138mpg.

I would want non of those troublesome cars.

Why is that, that we think we need freaking bigger displays an more "tech-fest" in cars each year instead of functional knobs for basic features and useful sizes of displays that don't distract from driving.

I’m from the US, so I am not familiar with the Ford Kuga. It certainly is rather hideous and cheap looking though. The shortened version of the Sportage doesn’t really do it for me. It totally destroys the look. So I guess that leaves the Tucson…haha.

I bought a Tucson 2 years ago, just after this model came out. Now it has like 50k miles done and the engine is basically dead...Hyundai service told me that the engine has to be replaced...so for me no more Hyundai-Kia anymore.

I’m buying one of these early next year, so this test is helpful. The Ford fails by the fact of it being the ‘chav’ theft car. Fords are so easy to, and are the most stolen. Then the Tuscon is being updated early 24 or sooner, it probably is the winner for me.

Throwing one suitcase into the boot shows nothing. Put 3 medium suitcases in with hand luggage, because that is the situation you will find yourself in with a family SUV. I had a look at the Sportage over the weekend, and when I opened the boot, I was very disappointed with the load space. It seems the boot capacity includes the under floor storage, which is useless for suitcases! My BMW 3 Series Touring has a 500 litre boot that has more useable space than the 'bigger' 587 litre Sportage. Seems most car reviews these days are as much about entertainment than actually reviewing the cars.

You can keep calling the kuga outdated but European families are still gonna buy it if they want a phev and it will retain as the best selling phev in europe
