I'm 20 years old and a massive Corrie fan. I respect if people like Corrie less than these times but I still think it's an amazing soap. I absolutely love this scene. Ena and Elsie were and still are the TRUE Queens of Soap

Ken Barlow is by far the best character. since his debut.

I’m an American, so I’m seeing these for the first time. What strikes me so much of these early episodes is how they were basically 30 minute plays. I mean, the band playing through after the fight has broken up was just genius.

There is a nice scene about 15 yrs later when Elsie has Ena to stay with her for a few days and they chat and reminisce over the breakfast table......

Violet and Pat - both fantastic actors. Arthur Lowe as Leonard Swindley was so massively popular that he was given his own series playing the same character - Pardon My Expression.

Corrie was never better than in the 60s and 70s. The writing and acting were top notch and spot-on. By comparison, it is rubbish now.

Funny seeing the original Nellie Dingle in this ( Sandra Gough). She played Stan and Hilda’s daughter, Irma. Now if Emmerdale had ever had Nellie’s mother in, Jean Alexander ( Hilda) would be perfect!

BY GOD; When Ena Sharples and Elsie Tanner went at it; The whole bloody country stopped to watch and listen; It was superb acting by a generation of soap actors who have now gone, and we will never see the likes again; God bless you Violet; God bless you Pat;

Those were the days! I've said it before and I'll say it again, Coronation Street started to lose it's way when Mrs Sharples went to keep house for Mr Foster and completely wandered off it's path when Hilda Ogden closed the door of no. 13 behind her for the last time. Now, it's just an overdone parody, with murders and disasters and gloom. Bring back the old days, if possible, and it will return to it's old position at the top of the viewer's charts.
