Flamenco As An Intimate Experience

A grandchild to the Flamenco bailaora Carmen Amaya, Omayra Amaya is a Flamenco dancer and director who appeared at GALA in 2018 in La sobremesa and is now presenting Flamenco show Íntimo, streaming through January 31. She speaks with GALA's Producing Artistic Director Hugo Medrano about how Spanish musician Paco de Lucía influenced her art and why she started combining Flamenco with jazz and other contemporary rhythms. Versatile and masterful, Amaya explains that Íntimo explores what our lives are like during the pandemic when solitude, through thoughts and feelings, takes you on a journey of self-discovery, but also brings hope for the future.
