only one thing: neither dusting or trimming allows your hair to GROW better or stronger. The only living parts of your hair are the rutes that can be stimulated. Cutting the ends does not effect your growth, but it helps keeping your hair healthy and after a good trim your hair looks stronger.

Honestly if your hair is that split all over you need a proper trim and to take better care of your d@mn hair. Dusting is mostly an excuse for stylists to charge you for a cut without giving you an actual cut. It also does nothing to shape your style. 🙄

I first learned of dusting, when I read about it in a beauty/fashion magazine. It said Lauren Bush Lauren had dusting leading up to her wedding day. I can't find anyone in my area who knows how to do this.

I try to do both. So the already broken ends don't break higher up and have a chance to grow, while fixing the ends and evening it out. Makes a huge difference

I modeled for years including my hair. I wouldn't let this stylist near my hair for free or if you paid me. This is a crappy haircut. No attention to detail. The ends are terrible and nothing like helping split ends. Lol. I used to watch how they cut my hair. I know the difference. No matter where I lived, including L.A, Chicago and NY, everyone wanted to know where I got my haircut. I can tell a great cut by watching the stylist. This one...👎

Nice to know about dusting. Really a time saver if I do it myself at home rather than cutting each split end I find individually.

I always cut my own hair. Is doing a dusting possible if you can't actually look directly at the strands? My hair isn't long enough to pull it around to the front, but I'm wondering if just moving this scissors along the hair group (doing it by feel) in the hopes of catching the short ones, would work?

Seems to me there's no reason it shouldn't work, as it's a very tactile technique, but I don't want to do anything that would be a complete disaster 😁

I've been getting dusting at Rapunzel's Salon in Columbus, Ohio for years. It really does work! I believe Dave Barrett's mentor George Michael may have coin the term "dusting". This technique is a little different though.

too bad I cant find a stylist around me who either knows what "dusting" is or, will do it, instead of just trimming. OR at least one that wont cost an arm and a leg.

I paid $55 to have my split ends removed but she only took off 2 inches and I still have split ends. I hate going to the salon. Some charge too much while others just suck.

But it's really hard to do it on curly/wavy hair , not everyone is blessed with smooth straight hair 😢

I can do this at home and it beats a hairdresser trying to trim any progress. I won’t cut ends so I do my own hair.
