Ruby is the perfect protagonist for RWBY? Who would have guessed?
ОтветитьI would like to ask you to make a video on a specific subject that Ren brought up in his crashout. What is the real meaning of being a proper huntsmen/huntress? And are our bois and gals close to getting there? Have they already reached it? Or got what it takes to do it?
ОтветитьThat is nice take on here character, although the story/series itself could use some changes.
ОтветитьI really want to see Ruby go all out in a fight. Personally I don't count the fight with the curious cat. But I really want to see Ruby not holding back.
ОтветитьIf Ruby Rose in volume 10 ever does an Anakin Skywalker transition to Darth Vader after she takes out Salem and finding out that summer Rose is actually her the entire time yeah that would just be heartbroken but also dark if they ever happened.
ОтветитьI agree that Ruby is the perfect protagonist for RWBY and a great one in general because she tries to be a hero while believing she is just a normal girl, which between the silver eyes power she is only just now learning about and being able to taking out packs of grim in the numbers of 50+ by herself with no damage at the age of 15, she has the humility to show that she is going to be the hero everyone wants to be. Even if she needs so help along the way which she now isn't afraid to for.
Now if only the show can remember Her and her team are the protagonists and not side characters like Jaune is another story.
Preach!!
I've felt nearly similarly to everything that you've shared in this video. And I've never hated Ruby throughout her journey. Like you said, she isn't perfect, but perfection is overrated. And Ruby kept trying, until she could no more, and then realized she still needed to try again.
The fact that people are blaming her for things that are one: Not her fault, and two: simply her desire to help others, shows a lack of story empathy. She's a little girl in a big world trying her best with the cards she has been dealt. Could she have done better? Absolutely. Why didn't she? Because she's 15+ years old dealing with things she never should have been involved in but is because of circumstances out of her control. Also, she's first person involved, not third person omniscient.
Even if common sense exists, common sense isn't all that common, especially with emotions running high and manipulations are at play.
Heck, my headcanon for the finale is Ruby facing off against Salem's forces alone. She's doing well, especially since she's more experienced with her Silver Eyes. She eventually gets overwhelmed, only to be bailed out by Weiss, Blake, and Yang. Team RWBY fights together and does better for longer, until more support comes. Waves upon waves of backup in the form of JNR, Oscar, SSSN, CFVY, CRDL, Taiyang, Raven, Qrow, Goodwitch, etc. turns the tide of battle until it's just RWBY vs Salem. Salem is still immortal at this point, but proves unable to defeat Team RWBY. Whether or not RWBY has Maiden Power is a coin flip. I personally believe they don't need it, but even if they have the Maiden Power... upon defeating Salem and gathering the Relics, the Brothers return to Remnant. Ruby explains the situation, but tells them off for letting Salem run free with Magic in a world that no longer had it or needed it. The Brothers would reflect on their errors, especially once Ruby mentions the Blacksmith. In the end, the Brothers remove all magic from Remnant, leaving only Dust, Aura, and Semblances. Ozma/Ozpin separates from Oscar and he and Salem are allowed to go into the afterlife together, to reconcile. The Grimm are driven to near extinction and the world of Humans and Faunuses find peace for the first time since the end of the previous war against self expression and identity.
A time skip happens and RWBY have become adults. Yang has replaced Glynda as combat instructor while Ruby has become Headmistress of Beacon. Weiss restarted the SDC with better rules and regulations in place for employees. She's also the new head of Atlas Academy. Blake is either with Yang as another teacher or is the leader of the new White Fang, a non-profit organization that helps relief efforts around the world. JNR found similar successes in their lives. Nora and Ren get married and are the heads of Haven Academy while Oscar, free from Oz, assists Ruby at Beacon. Jaune... becomes head of Shade Academy and is recognized as a Hero by the people there for being the one who helped so many people in times of crises during the War against Salem.
There's more I can cover, but the point is... Final Battle that escalates similar to Digimon 02 final battle against MaloMyotismon, final bad guy defeated and time skip to a new peaceful era where the Major Characters have found successful careers and such.
Thoughts?
I do agree that she has her flaws, and she is not anywhere close to being perfect, but she is definitely a great, if not the best, protagonist in the RWBY series.
ОтветитьUnrelated and totally out of nowhere to ask, but were you at Anime North yesterday? I swear I saw you when I was helping my artist friend unload.
ОтветитьI think Ruby Rose is an excellent character for the RWBY❤❤❤❤
ОтветитьI'm so happy that someone finally brought this to attention. Ruby is not a perfect is not a character but that's the point. She is good for this series and I hate how people slander her character. In my opinion I feel a part of this comes from misogyny because there are other male characters who are like Ruby but they are usually let off the hook.
ОтветитьSomehow I’m Imagining Her Being A Mentor To A Red Power Ranger Before He Becomes One.
Ответитьshe was 15, but she's now 17.
ОтветитьI completely disagree, i think ruby is a weak protagonist a poor leader and very childish to the point of cringe.
ОтветитьWhere this show belong -->🚽
ОтветитьRubert is a normal girl with normal knees
ОтветитьHonestly the one thing i hate about Ruby isn't that she's imperfect
Its that when given the chance to move foward accepting that mistakes were made and need to be corrected she just ignored all the mistakes she made and didn't change at all that was the moment i stopped supporting the show
Honestly, after 9 season Ruby was owed her crashout, the other three had their own moments of doubt and despair around season 4 and 5, all while Ruby was still chugging on with Jaune, Ren and Nora.
ОтветитьImagine having this many reasons for having a good protagonist in the story and being "You know, I think the military leader that we knew wall well meaning but too stuck in his ways since volume 1 is actually the better protag" XD
This Fandom is weird, man
Honestly I didn't think about it that way, so thank you for giving a new perspective.
ОтветитьSeems pretty reasonable to me
ОтветитьI actually like having the least experienced person being placed in the roll as a leader. Especially when it shows the impact of the pressure of being in charge and the character growth from learning how to handle the responsibility
ОтветитьI used to love this show. I simply lost interest since vol 10 is taking a while but I love Ruby as a character. She's only a teen who wanted to be a huntress but goes through a lot in the series over time too and in vol 9 things have been taking a toll on her as a leader
ОтветитьIf a character made the right choice at every single turn then the story would be boring. You need characters to make mistakes. You need the heroes to mess up and learn from it so they can grow and evolve and not be a stale Mary Sue. It is conflict that makes a story interesting. We need to see our heroes struggle, we need to see them mess up every now and again, we need to see them break. Because when they do succeed in the end, it will feel more satisfying to us. That's something the fandom seems to be forgetting.
ОтветитьWhat a fantastic video!
Do you have a patreon? This video alone makes me wanna donate!
I also agree about your opinion with Ruby, she and Weiss are my 2 favorite members of Team RWBY.
ОтветитьThank you for making a video about what I’ve been trying to explain to people for years! You’re my favorite RWBY content creator
ОтветитьWas*
ОтветитьI love Ruby Rose as a protagonist in RWBY.
ОтветитьDisagree, Zwei is the main character.
ОтветитьYou've Forgot very important thing. her motivation behind everything.
A simple, honest desire to help.
Ruby: I'm hoping we all will. As a girl, I wanted to be just like those heroes in the books. Someone who fought for what was right and who protected people who couldn't protect themselves.
Blake: That's very ambitious for a child. Unfortunately, the real world isn't the same as a fairy tale.
Ruby: Well, that's why we're here... to make it better.
I believe Ruby Rose is a perfect protagonist because she achieved her own successes despite her own fawns. But I think what truly makes Ruby perfect protagonist is how she treats people despite their identity and status.
ОтветитьDoesn't do much good if said simple soul can easily be mislead. With respect, her early shortcomings and harm that she and her team cannot be overlooked, despite the fact the show doesn't shows it. Ultimately, yes Ruby is a good character, that was handled poorly.
ОтветитьMy problem with Ruby isnt that shes flawed or makes mistakes. Its that she doesn't do that much in the whole series. Shes the main character on paper but the writers for whatever reason dont want to focus on her. Only in volume 9 and a little bit in 1 did she develop at all. All the characters in this show have the potential to be amazing. Thats what's frustrating. Shes a much better character in fixing rwby.
ОтветитьTHANK YOU
I think you pretty much summed it up. Is Ruby perfect? No, of course not, and that’s the point! Anybody who expects her to be is ridiculous. It works both in the story world (victory is in a simple soul) and realistically (she’s a teenager who’s been put under extreme pressure and stress, no shit she’s gonna make some conflicting choices).
Personally I love her and I think she deserves more love ❤
Ruby has been my favorite character since Vol. 1. Seeing her growth and kindness despite the storm in her heart is admirable.
Her friends will no longer leave her alone with this weight on her shoulders, Yang said this in RWBY Beyond.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what the future holds for Ruby. Strength doesn't bring victory, but a simple soul does.❤
Ruby Rose she may be 2 yrs younger to everyone in Beacon Academy
To her sister, her team and friends they treat her as a friend, classmate, and fellow huntress
Thank you Monty Oum and RoosterTeeth crew for continue the series and making characters from RWBY are awesome
Good points raised here.
ОтветитьThank you, Phoenix. Not just fir speaking positively about Ruby's character but for making me realize she's an antithesis to several of the villains. This just goes to show positivity is more open-minded and better than being negative. You're a true RWBY fan.
ОтветитьShe's the friend we need but don't deserve to have...
ОтветитьFinally. Some Ruby defense on my recommended. I'm saved.
ОтветитьPhoenix Night, what you said about Ruby being the one who shows kindness, shows the great change; and most of all, shows the choices she makes and learn from the mistakes, even faces the consequence. She inspired people to show kindness to others and for them to see that they are still people and that they're enough the same way she chose herself, and that was enough. Because she is a girl who does her best and that is enough. And I can relate to her. I have to struggle with what I am and who I am or etc? And if my best wasn't enough or how I needed to do more or work more. I always feel like I'm always worried about my family and friends and anything and anyone. Or not , as someone me to be or if I do more harm or if I make wrong choices. But my parents always told me to do my best, and things will be okay and learn from my mistakes and choices and actions... right or wrong. And they told me that they love me and our Savior and his Father love me and everyone just the way we are because we are all perfect just as we are. And what you said about Ruby reminds me of Reachle Joy Scott and that she inspired everyone to show kindness and love to many people and that there is hope. There's a quote from her that said, "Look hard enough, and you will always find a light." I believe that Ruby has shown us that we choose to see ourselves, look back on what we are and where we came from, facing changes good or worse, and look at us now that despite of everything that happened, it's still us and that was enough, that we chose to Keep Moving Forward.
ОтветитьOne of the best the best things about Ruby is that she's very relatable.
We've all had moments of feeling the weight of expectations, facing failure, being judged because of our ages, and being given a role and responsibility that we didn't ask for. We've all tried to hide these pains behind a brave face or a forced smile. This was Ruby's mistake because all it did was bottle it all up. Trust me, I've had moments similar to hers.
"Being a team leader isn't just a title you carry into battle, but a badge you wear constantly. If you are not always performing at your absolute best, then what reason do you give others to follow you?"
This piece of advice on leadership from Ozpin, while well intentioned, was too simplistic and unhealthy. Ruby believed it meant that if her leadership falters or if she shows any signs of weakness, Team RWBY would fall apart. Thus, she must maintain a brave face for their sake, no matter how much it hurts on the inside. If Ozpin had been more clear with his words or at least gave Ruby a demonstration, things could've been different.
It's true that a lot of us forget that Ruby Rose was only 15 when she enrolled (or should I say drafted) into Beacon two years, too early. She never asked to be a leader, nor did she ask to be involved in a centuries-long secret war between two immortals for the fate of the world. Let alone get stuck in the middle of a political mess. All she wanted was to become a great hero like her mother and the heroes in the fairytales. Then again, you could say that just about to every student in every academy.
I get what people were saying about how bad Ruby handled the Atlas situation. But when she and her friends learned the truth about Ozpin's secret, they opened Pandora's Box. Not to mention, Ozpin abandoned them right after that. This was why Ruby chose to keep the truth from Ironwood for the time being. You can tell just by her tone and facial expression that she was visibly uncomfortable with this decision. But it was necessary given what little resources she had that the time. Besides, after being betrayed, lied to, and abandoned by two headmasters, Ruby doesn't want Ironwood to go down their path. This secret was just too dangerous, and it could've further complicated how Ironwood was running things in Atlas if he found out right then and there. But again, she never could've predicted that Salem's agents were there already and were just creating a division for Salem's invasion. The way I see it, Ironwood's betrayal and Atlas' downfall were inevitable.
But I digress. Don't get me wrong, I do believe Ruby has what it takes to be a leader and a hero. It's just that she wasn't ready to be given such a responsibility. She still had a lot to learn. All Ozpin did was rush it. Not just because of her skills but because of her Silver-Eyes. He did a similar thing to Jaune, and he only got into Beacon by cheating. This proves that Ozpin was getting desperate at that point. Desperate to find something, anything, that will give him an edge to win this war or at least continue to delay the inevitable. Plus, Ruby still barely understands her eyes' full potential. This was all too much and too fast. Ironwood eventually made the same mistake by granted them their licenses too soon.
Let's not forget that Ruby (and everyone else at Beacon, for that matter) didn't even get the chance to graduate and become a full-fledged Hunter because Cinder and her goons destroyed the academy. Several lives were lost, including Penny and Pyrrha. To add insult to injury, Cinder ruined the reputation of the Hunters, academies, and the students by making them look like barbaric brutes to the public eye. Ruby's older sister lost an arm in the battle. Following that, her team became separated, and it took time for Team RWBY to rebuild itself.
This is too much for one girl to handle. One unexpected problem after another forced her to improvise and adapt. But through it all, Ruby was the only one willing to do SOMETHING rather than NOTHING while everyone else argued over what to do. Yang, despite their fallout, even admitted that Ruby's optimism, while blind, is better than nothing. Ruby is the glue that keeps Team RWBY together and their guiding light. Their mistake was not keeping the light burning, and they almost paid for it.
All in all, enrolling Ruby and making her a leader too soon was a good and bad choice. Besides Spider-Man and Ben 10 never asked to be heroes, but they chose to become heroes anyway. Like them, Ruby didn't realize the responsibilities that came with it until later.
Finally, I would like to talk about the one choice she made in the Ever After. When she drank the tea to go to Great Tree in order to become a better hero and wash away her failures. She met the Blacksmith, who showed her the memory of her mother's mistake to show her flaws of her Hero Complex. This made Ruby think her choice over. She could become a better person with all failures erased at the cost of her memories and identity, losing her knowledge and experience. Or she could go back as herself, keeping everything that makes her Ruby Rose and learn from her failures instead of running away from them. After thinking it over, she chose the latter. The price of becoming a better hero was too high. She beat temptation, and I'm proud of her for it. It brought tears of joy to my eyes. She finally realized that she wasn't some supergirl. She's just a normal girl with normal knees.
She now understands that she needs her team as much as they need her. She's not alone anymore. With this, there's no way in Hell Salem will stop her. Team RWBY may have lost the battle, but they will not lose the war.
She’s my favorite character!🥰❤️🌹 We have so much in common and it makes me truly happy that there are people that think RWBY is still a good show which it is! A lot of people make hate videos about it saying it’s a disappointing show which breaks my heart. I think Ruby is a wonderful protagonist she’s just as wonderful like Usagi Tsukino from Sailor Moon. I also headcanon her as autistic. (I’m autistic too) God bless you and thank you very much for making this video. My heart is beyond happy.🥹☺️
ОтветитьSomething that has always stood out to me with Ruby as a protagonist is her introduction in both the Red trailer and in Volume 1, and how well it sets up her arc and how it ties into the central conflict of the world and story. The Red trailer stands out in comparison to WBY, as we have Red like Roses as Ruby's first song and introduction to her character, yet it is more about her team as a whole, than about Ruby herself. (with the exception of the opening lyrics “Red like Roses fills my dreams and brings me to the place you rest” which in context of Ruby walking to Summer’s grave and the lyrics of RLR Pt2, we know is about Ruby’s grief for Summer, her mother, but also how her dream being a huntress and hero like in the fairytales is tied to her wanting to be like Summer, which again, is about Ruby’s sense of self overlapping with others, both Summer and WBY) This is in part due to her tendency to put others first before herself, being so selfless to the point she has no identity outside of that of RWBY's leader. Which of course is confronted and interrogated in V9. But also Red like Roses (Part One) being about team RWBY as a whole foreshadows how Weiss, Blake and Yang's character arcs are all meant to comment on and tie into Ruby's own arc and growth, just as she comments on theirs. You make a point in your video of pointing out how young Ruby is, and that does feel deliberate, as Ruby embodies her teammates' inner child. She is Yang's child to nuture, the one who is grieving/feels abandoned by their mother, she is Weiss's more playful and childish side that early on she desperately wants to repress/deny (hence why she is so hostile to Ruby at first and draws attention to her age so much "well congratulations on being the strongest child to sneak your way into Beacon!", and why the inside of her outfits are always lined with Ruby's red, it's her inner warmth and fire, more youthful optimism/playfulness hiding beneath the exterior of ice), and she is Blake's lost idealism (their first conversation outlines this, with Blake saying the real world isn't like a fairytale and Ruby responding with "well that's why we're here! to make it better")
This is also why in contrast to WBY who all get their own quotes at the start of their trailers that outline the theme of each respective character arc, and a song in their trailers that explores/sets up each girl's interiority, while Ruby does not. Because all the girls' quotes can apply to Ruby's character in the present (V9 and onwards)
Yang's quote in the Yellow trailer is about accepting yourself in your asymmetry, aka your flaws and imperfections, that even when broken you are still whole and beautiful:
"Scathing eyes ask that we be symmetrical, one sided and easily processed. Yet every misshapen spark's unseen beauty is greater than its would be judgement."
Ruby breaks down during V9 and has to face her own flaws and imperfections, and that even after failing she is still enough, even after shattering she is still whole (I like to believe this also links to how Ruby is symbolically tied to Remnant’s broken moon, which while broken is still whole, and still acts as a guiding light to those in the dark, just like how Ruby does)
Blake’s quote is about breaking free from other people’s ideals and expectations to find your own:
“Your hopes have become my burden, I will find my own liberation"
Ruby over the course of the series has felt burdened by the hopes and expectations of others placed on her as the leader everyone looks to, feeling the need to live up to an impossible ideal (specifically Summer, but tangentially her other mentor figures and foils too, Ozpin, Qrow and Ironwood). She must break free to find her own ideals and freedom, forging her own hope that will guide others.
Then we have Weiss’s quote, which is about learning to look outside yourself to see and understand those around you, the sorrow and burdens they carry in their hearts, and how in doing so you can see a mirror reflection of your own sorrow, and better see and understand yourself in learning to see and understand others:
“Everyone is entitled to their own sorrow, for the heart has no metrics or form of measure. And all of it… irreplaceable”
Ruby struggles with her own grief and loneliness, and feels distant from her team in V9, and she lashes out at them at her breaking point. It’s both understandable and a long time coming and also incredibly cruel and messy. She is entitled to her own sorrow just as anyone else is. And yet, so are others, like Neo, who is angry and grieving and lashing out at Ruby, who dismisses her feelings at first, which escalates the situation. But at the end of V9, she is shown to start being more empathetic and understanding towards Neo.
In summary, Ruby is now facing the same themes and struggles her teammates have already gone through. She is a child now growing up (she is now 17, the age WBY where at the start of the story) She has taken her first step into that journey as of V9, not the last. Or, as the ending song of V9 The Edge puts it quite nicely:
“It’s just a new beginning, it’s just a different ending”
Ruby needs to learn to develop empathy and see others in all their complexities (Weiss) as well as herself (Yang) in order to find her own ideals and freedom (Blake) to then free the world
Much like how Ruby inspires her teammates, as they all recognise and nurture something in themselves through their relationship with Ruby, it is now their turn to come together and help her with everything they’ve learned. Because all of their character arcs and struggles are meant to comment on Ruby's. Because RWBY is Ruby and vice versa. Hence why their team name RWBY sounds like Ruby.
Another thing I love about Ruby is her introduction in Volume 1 which perfectly sets up her character, who she is and ties her into the larger conflict. In response to Salem's "but there will be no victory in strength" The focus pans to Ruby during Ozpin's response to this: "But perhaps victory is in the smaller things, the things you've long forgotten. Things that require a smaller, more honest soul." Of course establishing that Ruby is our smaller, more honest soul.
When we see Ruby, she's got her hood up, headphones on, turned away from Torchwicks' hired lackeys and us the audience. She is standing in front of an album with "Truth" from Fullmetal Alchemist on the cover, a neat reference to the alchemical symbolism and structure present in the story, but Ruby, who embodies the Rubedo stage, the final state of perfection in alchemy, is the one who will find and see the Truth. ("truth will rise revealed by mirrored eyes"/"eyes that shone like mirrors reflecting the light of the world onto darkness") But she's not actually looking at the Truth when she's introduced here, she's reading a weapons magazine. Her focus is on fighting and combat. Her main interest is weapons, which she prefers over people:
"Just weapons! They're a part of us, an extension of ourselves! It's like meeting new people... but better."
"heh, no more awkward small talk and getting to know you stuff. Today I get to let my sweetheart do the talking"
She is the one positioned to see the Truth but is innocent/ignorant at the start of the series (her eyes and ears are both covered, she cannot hear or see the Truth).
Her hood being up, headphones on and turned away from us also shuts her off from other people, which tells us about her lack of social awareness (something she is challenged on and must grow past through her partnership with Weiss and being a leader in the first volume) as well as on a larger story scale, her lack of awareness of the larger conflict that is present. This fits with the theme of the Vale arc being childhood/ignorance. Our main cast is sheltered and unaware of the larger conflict with Salem in the story in V1, they are free to be children, to be carefree and have fun and explore themselves, but are also being kept in the dark, so this growth is limited. Ruby's introduction scene is the first time she herself is pulled into the larger conflict, by a lackey (Junior's men) of a lackey (Torchwick) of a lackey (Cinder) of Salem, the action pulling her hood back and getting her to take her headphones off.
She's reacting to the situation rather than being active ("they started it!") but her taking the initiative to fight back against Torchwick and his hired goons when confronted by them tells us several things about her character: She's brave and heroically inclined, she likes to help others when they need it (she fights back only after establishing the store is being robbed, and afterwards stops to ask the Shopkeeper if he's alright), we know from her semblance (that we saw in the Red trailer) that she can move at high speeds with Petal Burst, and could very easily run away from this confrontation if she wanted, (if she had it would've told us she was a cowardly character or somebody who is cautious about who/how they fight) but she instead leaps into action willingly to defend herself and others, which tells us she's bold and confident in her fighting abilities, but reckless. (which she gets called out on by Glynda and later Weiss)
In the fight scene itself she can easily take on the goons, but is outmatched by Torchwick not through strength or skill, but by him being underhanded. Literally she would've been blown up by him if not for Glynda appearing. Ruby is unsure of how to provide support to Glynda when fighting Cinder, again setting up how Ruby needs to learn to work with others. It also establishes that while Ruby is a strong and skilled fighter for her age of an impressive and difficult weapon to wield, she is clearly not on the same level as Glynda, a huntress, who Ruby aspires to be (See: Cinder easily deflects Ruby's attacks, but struggles with Glynda's). She has a certain naivety and lack of experience fighting against people (Torchwick and Cinder) and alongside (Glynda) people, again setting up Ruby's struggle to better understand people and the world around her in all it's complexities. This is done on a smaller scale arc in V1 with her partnership with Weiss, coming into her own as a leader and making friends. But as she gains knowledge (during the Mistral arc, in which Knowledge is the central theme of the arc) and more responsibility as a bigger role of being the spark that unites humanity, and the complexities and burdens that come with thst become more apparent (the Atlas arc and dealing with Ironwood, her dark foil, who is crushed under the weight of his own hubris in refusing to trust others and ending up alone, and the loss of Penny, who represents her inner child/sense of hope, who chooses to sacrifice herself to save others) it becomes ever more integral to her character arc and the resolution of the plot itself, and ties into this:
"You... have silver eyes"
Ruby learning to use her eyes is symbolically about her learning to truly see the world and people fully in all its shades of grey (aka silver) and not just black and white, and to try to see the silver lining (the hope) in a grimm (ha) situation. To see the human within the monster.
So overall her journey entails her understanding humanity, which is likely something she'll end up knowing better than Salem and the Gods, and having to teach them too.
I really, really love her design and the symbolism of Red used for Ruby, the duality of the colour red and what it represents is purposeful and encompassed in her character. She wears her signature red cloak in the same way a super hero would, evocative of justice and heroism and the like, and she very much is the courageous heroine. She's a very loving character, emphasised in her Silver Eyes ability being fuelled by her love of others. But the darker imagery of red, the association with blood and death and violence, well, Ruby's arc in part is about coming to terms with her grief and the death of her loved ones, namely her mother Summer Rose and her violent fate which may also await Ruby
"Every nightmare just discloses
It's your blood that's red like roses"
Coupled with her Grim Reaper aesthetic which links her to death, and her semblance of scattering into red rose petals that can be seen as resembling blood. The juxtaposition of red in Ruby's design as both positive and negative and how that links to understanding life and death (which also foils her to Salem quite nicely with her curse) is just. Really neat.
A young woman who misses her mother but still wants to good in the world by helping people.
Ruby’s certainly come a long way from bashing thugs out windows and on the streets of Vale.
Fighting extremists on top a speeding train filled with bombs.
Stunning a huge wyvern still atop of a tower.
Slicing off a Serial Killer’s body part.
Meeting her Headmaster in a young man’s body.
Halting a Kaiju’s rampage long enough for a giant mech to finish it off.
Facing the enemy of their world who brought her to tears.
Sending a message of Hope to the world and saving a city’s worth people with her team, allies, and friends.
Reflecting on who she is and who she wants to be in the heart of their universe.
She is perfect for her world as a hero
