Playing an instrument has nothing to do with making money...
....everything to do with making music.
Thankyou for it all . Best bass player in the world .
Ответитьwould be nice to have a link to that scotsmans song, what a great interview.
ОтветитьDelightful, Mr. Thompson. What A GEM!
ОтветитьI just love him.
ОтветитьI could only imagine what it would have been like to have been around Danny and John together. Danny is just as hilarious as John. Great storyteller and so quotable!
ОтветитьThe story of playing up in Glasgow because of a post on FB because he wanted to is absolutely fantastic, a man who loves music and his story brought a tear to my eye. He is so spot on i love him xx
ОтветитьViolinist=David McCallum Snr father of David McCallum of Illya Kuryakin (Man from Uncle) fame
ОтветитьI've heard a few stories about you pair. Many are probably true.
ОтветитьReminds me of Derek and Clive, ha ha
ОтветитьThis interview would make a great outline for Danny's autobiography......."Big Bass Man"
ОтветитьPriceless!
Ответитьany chance you could add the music tracks in? cheers
ОтветитьJust came across this today. Excellent, absolutely brilliant stories. Especially on John Martyn. Danny the legend, old school 👍
ОтветитьAmazing evening, so funny. Orbison "mercy!"... nearly died laughing.
ОтветитьWonderful. Thanks for sharing.
ОтветитьSo funny, so wise - you bless the air Danny.
ОтветитьLove u Danny xx
Ответитьhow down to Earth is Danny?! I'd have loved to have been there. Sound fella. Love all his work, brilliant instrumentalist.
ОтветитьWow, what an interview. Made me laugh and cry.
What a bloody leg end.🙌
The chord that hurts 🤣
Thanks for this - last few years there's been a swathe of musicologist "analysis" of so many of my musical heroes from the 60's, 70's and 80's. with lots of twaddle and pompous high brow BS, when you know perfectly well that these guys just played from the heart and wouldn't have known a music theory book if you'd them round the head with one.
Danny and John just a powerful duo indeed.
ОтветитьTop man
Ответить! I could listen to him talk all day he's such a legend!!😁
ОтветитьHe played on a mates album (Craig Davies) when he arrived at the studio, with his bass,Craig said ‘you needn’t have brought that, they have a studio bass!’ Apparently Mr Thompson lifted the bass neck from its lean and said ‘Firewood’…
ОтветитьWhat a thoroughly wonderful down-to-earth man he is. I have so many recordings with DT on bass, many of them John Martyn's of course, and to hear him being himself and simply talking about what he does, the love of his vocation just oozes out of the man. Superb vid. Thx. I'll never listen to 'Inside Out' again without smiling from ear to ear.
Ответитьthank you, loved every minute.x
ОтветитьWhat a gem of an interview. I wish there was more of this on the 'Tubes. God bless Danny Thompson.
ОтветитьThe chord that hurts😂😂😂
LEGEND
Riveting ! XX 🙂
ОтветитьAny chance of another evening? I could listen to Danny forever.
ОтветитьBrilliant. Had me gripped.
ОтветитьThis guy could do a full 2 hour show just telling stories and a bit of playing.... total bass legend!
ОтветитьBrilliant Banter
Ответитьmarvellous raconteur, genius musician.
Ответитьjust got this..beautiful...
Ответитьone of my fav folk groups was pentangle still ot one or two org albums
ОтветитьThe best gigs I've ever been to involved John and Danny. I've been so lucky to see John martyn many times and Danny always took him to another level. (in fact Danny took anyone I heard him play with to another level). Really appreciate him sharing these stories and hope to witness your skills again one day ❤
ОтветитьMore more encore
ОтветитьJust come across this interview,
What a musician , what great stories, what a funny man!
This is so wonderful to hear!..
I had no idea that such a cracking geezer was behind the music that I’ve loved since I was a teenager in the 1970s. Brilliant.
ОтветитьI have always admired his work and met him in a pub in the 1970s in Suffolk where he lived. I don’t know how it got to football but he is a Chelsea supporter and very aggressive. Me and friends naturally are Ipswich fans and he immediately thought that was a sort of challenge and said name your reserve team because according to him this was some of acid test as to whether you are a real supporter. Listening to him here I realise he is one of those people who have to establish their dominance. The name dropping, the appreciative audience. Absolute prick.
ОтветитьTwo tossers together.
ОтветитьThe famous Scottish actor Danny was referring to whos father was "lead fiddle player" of the orchestra was David McCallum of Man from U.N.C.L.E. fame. Danny's a legend, I've seen him many times with John Martyn, I last saw him at the Albert Hall at Richard Thompsons 75 birthday bash, he had to sit down to play his Victoria but man he was brilliant. His mere presence there made the night for me. Bless ya Danny.
Ответитьthe engineers should have given you a bit more prominence you were partners
ОтветитьThe interplay on the Berlin recordings was the best ❤
ОтветитьDavid McCullum..
ОтветитьI've watched this interview 4/5 times because I just love hearing the stories
