Heya, this isn't explicitly about the video or anything, just wanted to state I enjoy your content. I tend to be a bit encapsulated in my bubble of learning web development while naturally working with a Linux OS, so getting more of an idea of what's going on in the Linux, FOSS and Firefox space is really enjoyable to me. Thank you so much for just sharing your enthusiasm!
ОтветитьRemember, the news is just THE news. It's not singular or plural. -- You wouldn't say, "These video are sponsored by Linode", would you? :p
ОтветитьSpoiler alert: Google Fuchsia is vaporware.
Ответитьff Also, 'exe-cutables', not 'exec-utables' :p
Ответитьwhat are the best distros for servers nowadays?
Ответитьyo!!! full S76 amd laptop?! let's go!!! time to save!!
ОтветитьI was a big CentOS user but unfortunately have to migrate away from it now. I'll definitely be migrating my company over to Debian / Ubuntu servers shortly. I might give Rocky a try in the future - but I'd have to see several years of solid development behind it first. There is no way I would trust the stability of my company to a brand new distro.
ОтветитьProblems with Linux fragmentation is real, However, Snaps are pathetic currently, they don't respect the theme, huge package sizes, auto updates, huge start up time and so on.
I'm really for a unified software distribution, but it needs to practical.
I am using Firefox for ages, converted from early Chrome to get rid of everything-Google. I don't feel like I have some performance problems running on generic Ubuntu or Windows. So while any performance improvement is OK, I don't have some urgent need for it.
ОтветитьCentos was a waste of time for redhat. It only makes sense for redhat to support it if the community contributes to it. Which most didn't.
They kept the stream channel for people that want Centos.
who else is in the rocky linux gang
ОтветитьI work in corperate IT, and now we'll have to eventually change the machine image of every sever running CentOS. Screw IBM!
ОтветитьI followed your suggestion and read the snap article from Alan Pope. It's very interesting. It actually made me understand more the decisions Canonical made around snaps and eased me about their objectives with snaps. Around the end of the article Alan said something like: "it's not that we want everything going snap, we just want to make easier to publish and get software for Linux." Not his exact words, but that's the idea, Canonical's desire will never be to force snaps, they just make it easier for developers to publish and maintain apps, but most of the system is expected to be as it is... It's just that sometimes some people sound so alarming and negative about Ubuntu but they don't listen the maker's point of view which makes a lot of sense
ОтветитьVery sad news about ZaReason.
ОтветитьIt would be very ironical that Cyberpunk ran without trouble on Linux, and glitchy everywhere else. XD
ОтветитьWhen I read about the security priorities in FOSS projects first time a day ago, I was honestly shocked.
Granted, we have not much points for Linux to go with for real other than excitement if we talk to others but this one is... rough.
dxvk is such an awesome project love it.
ОтветитьGets 4k a month to port Linux to M1.
Meanwhile Kent Overstreet, the developer of bcachefs doesn't even get 2k.
Kinda questionable priority list of the community imho.
It seems that Cyberpunk 2077 runs about as well on Linux as on Windows.
ОтветитьToo bad about CentOS. I wanted to start experimenting with CentOS as I use Fedora on the desktop. I have a few Dedian VM's on Proxmox. As always thank you for the news.
ОтветитьSupport Rocky Linux, don't go to dark side. Forget about Oracle, they like lawsuit more than engineering.
ОтветитьDespite all of the glitches and issues, this game is super fun! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
ОтветитьHello man, nice video so congrats! I just wanted to ask you which video recorder do you use/recomend for Linux (ubuntu)?
Ответитьfor the algorithm
ОтветитьDecember 25 News: Ruby 3.0 is released with a lot of new features like true multithreading and removed GIL...
ОтветитьGreat video. You're doing a nice job with this channel. I predict you will go far. Kudos & respect for the hard work and dedication and thanks for the quality content. (Edited typo)
ОтветитьWHile it can be considered a devastating blow to the CEntOS community?....all they have to do is hold out until "Rocky Linux" is ready....its basically going to be CEntOS minus the IBM / totalitarian mindset of "licensing" or charging fees for services. I'm actually looking forward to it for my CEntOS7 box at home!
ОтветитьCentOS Stream isn't a rolling release in the way most people think of rolling releases (e.g. Arch or openSUSE Tumbleweed). CentOS will have regular major point releases, forked from Fedora (the way RHEL has been). The change is that CentOS will not have minor point releases (e.g. X.1, X.2, etc.) Fixes to CentOS major versions will be released through CI/CD; "rolling" only /within/ the major versions. These fixes will periodically be released in groups to RHEL as minor point releases.
ОтветитьWhat I find interesting with the news on CentOS is that as people discuss alternatives to CentOS almost no one is saying "Just go out and buy RHEL". All these corporations that has standardized on that platform just refuse to pay for it and use CentOS instead and still won't pay for it. Very interesting.
ОтветитьPlease stop trying to install Linux on anything Apple related. Those system are truly designed to only run Apple operating systems near their release dates. I know that sounds stupid but Apple likes to brick modded Apple devices even if it is for repairs. They're the Hardware version of Nintendo.
ОтветитьCent os is the shit beyond the peilll
ОтветитьCan you then make video on alternative of cent os for enterprises and business. Not that most of us has anything to do with it but it will be interesting.
Ответитьthat ad, just killed it. cya!
Ответить2 months ago, the IT Director asked me to get the full list of RHEL servers we have so we could replace them with CentOS. I'm pretty sure that news will make him lose his sh*t.
ОтветитьBut wasn't CentOS an entirely server-focused disto? Have never seen anyone running CentOS on a PC
ОтветитьIsn't "Fuchsia" pronounced "fuxia?
ОтветитьI always get excited for your monthly linux news updates, love your content 👍👍👍
ОтветитьWelp, my plans to stand up a CentOS 8 server in January 2021 just got flushed down the IT toilet.
ОтветитьAlgorithm comment
Ответитьthose AMD laptop cpu options look pretty trash, they not even SMT enabled while the Intel ones are pushing multithreading for the same price. you have to be competitive
ОтветитьMy workplace uses Debian stable for the servers. That's what ya get for trusting corporations with your server stability.
Ответитьgame is been made for apple as well for 2021 release date for m1X and M2 hardware
ОтветитьFuchsia is alive? Wow
ОтветитьThe community is already working on a RHEL clone again (like CentOS once was) called "Rocky Linux" if you didn't hear about it already
Ответитьngl, centos stream actually sounds perfect for my use case.
ОтветитьA System76 AMD laptop is very good news in my book ! I don't need a new laptop right now, but I was planning on getting a new laptop once AMD release their next generation of mobile APUs which should have Zen 3 CPU cores with RDNA 2 GPU cores and hopefully be on DDR 5. And hopefully System76 jump on the bandwagon as well.
I usually just end up using Windows on my laptops, because it's already preinstalled and I feel like I'm throwing money out the window if I just remove it, so I've always wanted to be able to buy a laptop with a Linux distro preinstalled.
