Hell ya! I bought this game at a retro store because it was cheaper than Zelda 1 or 2.
Worth every penny.

This has to be my favorite NES game. It was so fun but frustrating! Ha.

This was one of the first games that after I beat it, I went right back in to start again now that I knew about where I’d need keys. Loved it!

This game is so drab looking. You're in a giant tree but it never looks vibrant or living. They made a tree look like a dungeon.

There's something uniquely 'off' about this game. It's a great game. The wonderfully odd soundtrack fits the other design elements so well and really brings together an unforgettable gaming experience.

I would love to see a modern developer make a platform-rpg. Faxanadu, Zelda 2, Wizard's and Warriors, Below the Root, and even Valkyrie Profile are all games that I enjoyed.

That game is good I played it year's ago when I was young, if you like Zelda II then this be good to try. Another good one is a game called Battle of Olympus.

I know what you mean though. Before everybody was desensitized to gore and debauchery the stuff used to be creepy as hell. I remember my buddy had Sega and he had alien that game was creepy. Super Metroid and Max Payne are creepy as well

Faxanadu had a crazy ambiance

I remember being so into this game. The idea of a whole civiliazation living in a huge tree. Some of it creeped me out as I was so immersed. It really does have a bleak atmosphere!!

All right I'm playing it. So far I like it. A lot of the English is broken with some of the people you talk to though. It's humorous in the medieval times this dude is trying to teach me martial arts

I am curious if you will consider ideas for games to do, because if you do, I have one very special nes game close to my heart I want you to cover.

I only ever played this when I was stupid young, like 6 or 7. The creepy critters were awesome and I wanted more of that, but the crawling spiny things ended me within 1 or 2 screens and I never got further than that. The game looks so fantastic and fun and just something that I always wished I was able to lay hands on when I got old enough to actually know how to play games like these.

Glad to see this game getting some love. One of my all-time NES faves. Still have it in the original box!

I really liked this game

IDK how accurate this is, I didn't deep dive into the lore or anything, but I always found this game's monsters and design elements to be.. not fantasy at all. More ...I don't want to say Lovecraftian, but like, monster sci fi. And I remember being told.. or reading, I'm quite old, that this game, the story about meteorites and everything, wasn't about 'demons' or evil creatures, it was about a fantasy world, being invaded by alien monsters. And the people, having no concept of aliens, just fight them with swords and magic, assuming them to be demons or the like.
I have no idea if this is true, in fact I seem to recall finding out it wasn't, they really are just random monsters, but like.. I really did believe the 'it's not demons it's alien creatures' plot and it honestly seemed super cool to me. Note that I learned this as an adult, I played the game.. once.. as a kid, and I sucked at it so 'this game sucks' and I never played it again.

Anyone else spend the 24 hours farming enough gold for the chain axe wheel weapon?! Funny part is you can buy it super early on.

The reason your sister never played Faxanadu again was because those two early items are bugged. If you get the Magic Shield and Death spell early, it makes every password you get after that invalid. I'm not sure if it works with every copy, but I've played 3 different copies and it happened on all of them.

Still one of my favorite games, though. I love the music and the bizarre creature design.

I'd be interested in seeing a remake with quality of life fixes and enhanced pixel art...

Classic great game

Man, I remember this from back in the day! I would grind and grind early on to get enough gold to buy the trident looking weapon to make the rest of the game a lot easier.

I remember playing this game. Seemed the save codes didn't work often enough that I think sometimes they were given wrong.

Great game, despite its many flaws. However, I'm still mad at the developers for lying about the Battle Helmet...blocks almost all of the magic my a$$! 😂

I totally forgot about that horrible King key area where you HAVE to backtrack if you didn't know. I remember as a kid just dreading the thought of it, so I just kept wandering around for far too long.

Christmas Dec 1989 5th grade i got this, Dragon Warrior, Tetris and the 3 Stooges Game

I never had Faxanadu but I rented it several times, don't remember ever actually ever seeing it sold anywhere. I wish I had my NES and games still.

When me and my older brother got Faxanadu, we got to dog sit a chihuahua named Fax not long after. Let’s just say he was way cooler because we called him Faxanadu.

I got Faxanado for Christmas when I was 8. I really dug it, but I always got to the first stilts boss and got stuck, because I didn't know how to cast magic. Fast forward 6 months of me ignoring it, and I got sent home sick with asthma for a week. I tried the game once more out of curiousity, and just so happened to figure out the method for casting magic. And it was game-on from there. I spent the whole week at home, joyously making my way through the game. I can still here the mantra music in my head, from methodically transcribing those godawful passwords. I'd have gone crazy if not for how relaxing that music was.

I'm convinced the key salesmen in Faxanadu are running some sort of racket and are possibly the true scourge of the World Tree.

They probably paid contractors to install doors that lock again once someone passes through them and somehow they've designed keys that are destroyed after unlocking a door once. Diabolical.
