How to rollback and clean install Nvidia GPU drivers (and fix issues)

after reinstalling drivers and having no luck. I was not able to launch any intense game like oblivion remastered. cyperpunk, or mhw. I uinstalled overwolf and suddenly the games all work....

4070 super here, newest driver update is pure trash. Never had black screen issue but I did have vrr issue. New update(576.28) disabled my vrr without me knowing it and my games ran like crap. When I used gsync, it was non existent. Vsync caused high imput latency. Did some configurations yesterday and realized when I was using gsync and vsync combo, the game was only utilizing vsync. No matter what i did in the control panel or app, gsync would not work. Windows settings vrr tab was turned off and darkened out, saying the monitor doesn't support vrr. FYI, vrr must be on in windows settings for vrr to work or it doesn't matter if you turn it on/off in the Nvidia app. Reverted back to driver 572.42 and everything works flawlessly. Just a guess but driver updates might be messing with vrr(GSYNC, FAST SYNC) screens and may be causing it to get stuck on black screen for some.

Hello, i got the blackscreen problematic suddenly out of nowhere with my RTX 3080. No matter which driver i install ( and i tried several) i always get blackscreens when playing. Any1 also had this suddenly out of nowhere without installing a new driver?

viewsonic xg2405 and 3080ti here i am hoping to recover since the last time the vile app "nvidia app crashed" it didn't even respond to shut down and on boot comes up with a blue disc rotating cursor animation now i was blesssed to have an onboard graphics output now will be carrying out the ddu thanks for the amazing video prawn

Reverted RTX 4070 back to 566.36 and was perfectly fine for 2 days, just had my first freeze/black screen and game crash a few minutes ago. Feels like there's no hope and it's just waiting for this garbage company to produce something useful. I shouldn't be afraid to do my main hobby because I fear my recording software will just inevitably crash... There really isn't a solid solution to this problem :(

I just delete the driver from add or remove
And install previous driver
Any problems?

You can also reboot to safe mode via a toggle in msconfig. Much cleaner imo, otherwise thanks for the sage tips!

Just one question. Why clean custom install from nvidia driver not used? Why need do complex way like this?

i haven't seen anyone have my particular issue including the nvidia black screen issue... first my monitors freeze for 5-10 seconds before doing the black screen for 3 seconds, then monitors come back on whilst shutting down every program besides web browser. please tell me im not alone in that everyone else is just only experiencing the black screens without their games shutting down on them?

I really appreciate the video (and subsequent videos related to this NVIDIA debacle), and I have a follow up question: after using DDU in Safe Mode and then restarting, I still see the NVIDIA Control Panel option under the right click menu. Any idea why that might be? Just wondering if that means I'm not getting a clean uninstall via DDU and why the black screen issues are still persisting after installing the older 566.36 driver (I'm on Windows 11 with a 4070 Ti Super). Thank you for this. Nvidia's latest drivers (576.02) on my RTX 4070 were giving me the black screens on boot so I had to roll back to 566.36 and with the help of your video I was able to rollback successfully

yeow just rolled back to 566.36 due to recent nvidia driver updates being a hot mess and lots of blackscreens (i nearly bricked my PC)

Hello, I have tried to use this software but when I get to the part where I press 4 for safe mode it come up on the next screen and say pin not available and it won’t let me into safe mode. Is there a way around this or to fix it? Thanks

i have a 5070 and when i updated to 576.02 everything felt laggy/worse performance, not just games but my home screen, etc. even my temps went up. should i just roll back to 572.83 or is there another driver that’s better?

Do I have to download the DUU drivers from EU even tho I live in the US???

I'd think a tech guy would know you could uninstall the drivers through windows without needing DDU.

What is best suitable version of gpu driver for 4070 super? Currently I'm at the current version and its weirdly bugged. For example it has error while reading a gpu temps in task manager and its laggy sometime the screen is flashing off and back on again.

Why didn't you install Nvidia app ? And then automatically download drivers from the app ?

I did have some trouble with the windows PIN not working in safe mode and needed to connect to the internet, then for whatever reason, my windows password refused to work, so went back to the safe mode options and chose option 5 to go to safe. Ode with networking. After that, worked perfectly.

I rolled back my driver to 566.14 and I STILL got a black screen. Did the DDU stuff and all, how is that even possible??

The black screens come to me in all copies of the driver during the installation. I can't use the graphics card for 4 days.
