I seen and lived it as a little kid in the schools in utah in the 1960's. The history they where teaching was not correct. And thinking as a little boy as having more than 1 wife was strange ha ha but as a man now I could see the adventure in that 😂

All the Indian schools were not the same. A recent story in KSL about The Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City was praised by alumni to the school who come back each year to repaint the “I” on the adjacent mountain. They credit much of their time at the school for successes in life.

What year was this utah was part of a territory of Mexico so it depends if this happened

Thank you for reporting on this story. So many people don't even know that the Indian Schools existed, and even fewer understand what the system was really doing. These are the things we need to be teaching our kids so that society doesn't repeat the same mistakes.

I know those who operated the schools thought that they were helping poor rural children recieve an education and marketable labor skills. But forcefully erasing someone's heritage and culture is never helping. We can do better.

My father told me stories of how he, sisters and brothers were taken from home and taken to Calif to a Boarding School. He was 3 yrs old. Sad stories
best not remembered.

This is absolutely disgusting. Why do we think we are entitled to force every race, religion, creed, etc, to be what WE want them to be! We are different on purpose, and it's beautiful. We cannot change history, but we can learn from it.

My Father,
Tommy Rexford, was the one that got rid of those “Schools” for the Natives, in 2 different countries.
People have a tendency to forget just how many of them there were, every community had at least two or more.

When he got rid of them in the early 1980s, people all over this country, as well as Canada, we’re working like busy busy, busy bees, tearing down and destroying as much evidence as it was that they could, and if you remember a 1983, most of the lower 48 as well as Canada, were on Fire, because white people could not dismantle as quickly as possible, they were setting everything ablaze.

People need to remember who my Father was & what he did for the people that nobody else cared about, in 2 different countries.

The real stories, and the real histories needs to come out, people need to learn & people need to learn how to care.
