At the prestigious 8th edition of GemGeneve in 2024, Diana Zhang, the first Chinese female jewelry designer to be featured at the Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris, unveiled her latest masterpiece, "Red Lotus Under The Sun". This exquisite piece is not just a testament to her unparalleled skill and dedication but also a celebration of cultural poetry and aesthetic refinement.
Drawing inspiration from the serene beauty of the lotus and the poignant verses of Yang Wanli’s Song Dynasty poem, "The Lakeside Temple at Dawn", Zhang’s creation is a profound reflection of purity and resilience. The poem describes how the green lotus leaves stretch across the sky, while the red lotus blossoms are vividly dyed by the sun’s rays. This imagery beautifully parallels Zhang's philosophy of maintaining purity and integrity despite the murkiness of the surroundings.
The journey to bring "Red Lotus Under The Sun" to life spanned three meticulous years. Zhang spent the first two years in the pursuit of the perfect rubies, selecting one hundred of the finest oval-cut Burmese no-heat pigeon blood rubies, known for their unrivaled clarity and intense color. These gems underwent rigorous SSEF identification in Switzerland to ensure their quality. The final year was devoted to the artful assembly of these treasures into the lotus design, characterized by its vibrant bloom and delicate petals.
