Bro I swear MAUNA KEA IS NOT THE TALLEST MOUNTAIN

Its always been measured from sea level. I hate those people who think Mauna kea in the tallest mountain. What mountain is farther in the air? Mount Everest. If its in the water it does not count.

It should be a list about perspective as well
In my city, the mountain is 2000 meters above sea level, but from my perspective it looks smaller in height than the empire state
Denali mountain however, does look like a damn titan from the ground

From base to peak(climbable/on land) the tallest is Denali mountain in Alaska.
Everest just rests on a higher platform already and therefore has the highest elevation above sea level.
Mauna kea is the tallest but most of it is underwater.
Chimborazo is the farthest point from the center of the earth because of the earth's shape...
If you're a climber(or anyone) and you stand in front of these 4 no other is gonna look bigger in front of you than Denali because it has the longest distance from where you're standing to where it ends(summit)
I hope that's clear enough!

There is also a fourth tallest mountain on earth, if we were to only measure from ground level, than the tallest mountain on earth would be Denali in Alaska!

If you measure base to peak, Mt McKinley aka Denali in Alaska, is roughly 3,000 feet taller than Everest. It is the tallest mountain on land anywhere in the world (Everest's peak is only higher because its base is at a higher elevation). Note I said on land. The real winner of base to peak is Mauna Kea, which as we know, is far below sea level.

I really hate this Mauna Kea factoid. As far as I'm concerned all earth below sea level is the same. When I want to know earth's tallest mountain, I mean from the base. Not from the bloody ocean floor. For some reason the internet is in love with this mauna kea factoid, which I consider thoroughly pointless. Does mt Everest not have a base below sea level?

this is wrong. we live on earth, therefore our plane of reference is the surface of the earth, meaning it being “farther than the center” doesn’t make it higher.

Many claim highest and tallest have different definitions in regards to the 'highest' mountains... basically, they mean the same. In reference to S.L, Everest it is clear that Everest is both highest and tallest. Sea level is the most meaningful measurement standard. Most dissenters seem to be Americans desperately trying to redefine mountain magnitude to suit claims that Denali or Mauna kea are highest/tallest/biggest, despite the fact that both require different definitions to be considered greater. By those same flawed definitions, there are other mountains in the world that are arguably taller and higher than Denali and Mauna Kea.

I'd usually shrug it off as depending on how you measure, but i've played enough space games to understand that the highest point on a planet is where the atmosphere on the surface is least dense, so it's pretty weird to see just how much of an effect a simple altitude number has on people and the dang consumer market.
