With the benefit of the hindsight, I sincerely hope that lessons will be learned this time and flood safety procedures will be reviewed throughly and vigorously to ensure that this doesn't occur again on Spanish soil. In 1957, Valencia flooded entirely, and the river was diverted south of the city, with a 35% capacity increase up to 5000m3 per second. It still failed; go figure. Everything south of Valencia is swamped.

Not climate change (global warming) at all. They were rivers and water ways through these city and villages way before our time and we engineered it so they stop running as extreme and we failed as you cant always stop mother nature. Just like damming its always going to go at some point in time. Cant say this water way was 'designed' then go onto say its climate change, the way it has struck is terrible yes but it was like that before we messed with it.

Flash floods had occurred in this part of Spain years ago but several dams were built to prevent them. CLIMATE CHANGE IS NOT THE REASON.
Socialist government has destroyed these dams and the result is this catastrophe.
Spain has elite equipment and resources but both governments, local and national ones didn't activate the red Alert and did not give the comand to the army to go there and help so people have been suffering with no food or water, electricity, wifi, or any basic supplies for 4 DAYS whilst corpses were flooding all over the places and in the cars.
First day when the flash flood were rasing the first towns the incompetent local governor was telling on the TV that nothing was happening and rain was near to stop.
Pleople there have been helped only by civilians volunteers and thousand of people sending foodstuffs, water, blankets, medicines, etc.
Illegal inmigrants are robbing shops, cars houses, stealing everything from people whi have lost everything even from places where there are people dead. No police is there to stop them. This is absolutely apocalyptic.
We have resources and very experienced professionals to manage this, but government is not letting them to proceed. Just only today red alert has been activated and army, police, UME and first aid corps are being moved there... As I daid 4 DAYS LATER.
The government has abandoned the citizens because their political battles while PM Sánchez were on holidays in India.
This is the rubbish and criminal government we have. People is completely fed up with this politicians and we are near an uprising.
More. While flash flood victims who have lost everything are accommodated in masive sports centers The illegal inmigrants are comfortably living in hotels&resorts
