Roknar Rye Whiskey | The Next Wave of Bottled-In-Bond Rye Whiskey

Far North Spirits hails from the great state of Minnesota, USA. They are developing a brand new style of whiskey making that is sure to pique the interest of many a whiskey drinker. Far North aims to establish MINNESOTA RYE as a regional style in the spirit of Pennsylvania and Maryland-style ryes. The Roknar Rye (Nordic for "Warrior from the gods") is a bottled-in-bond rye whiskey (50% ABV/ 100 Proof) with a mash bill of 80% AC Hazlet Rye, 10% Corn, and 10% Malted Barley. With an MSRP of $59, this whiskey will make you stand up and take notice of what Far North is trying to accomplish!

While we have our own opinion on this bottle, here is what the distillery says about it: ROKNAR is a single-estate rye whiskey born of grain grown and harvested by head distiller Michael Swanson on his family’s fourth-generation farm. Aged for a minimum of 4 years in 53-gallon charred oak barrels and bottled at 100-proof.

With a mash bill of 80% rye, 10% corn, and 10% malt barley, Far North aims to establish MINNESOTA RYE as a regional style in the spirit of Pennsylvania and Maryland-style ryes.

We seeded AC Hazlet rye for this Roknar on Section 4 in the fall of 2018. It overwintered in bitterly cold temperatures with good snow cover. It survived a summer hail storm and was harvested in August. It was distilled and barreled in October 2019.
