There is something so overwhelmingly special about this album. Despite its popularity, it still feels so personal and almost "confidential" -- intended to be kept a secret. It's so hard to explain. It's like a private book of knowledge and emotion that only you can access, but in album form.

Thank you for this review, I highly agree with you - Viva la Vida has always been my favourite Coldplay record and it bugs me so much it has never received that much credit as a whole. I'm also very glad you praised "Yes", which I felt in love with the first time I heard it... terribly underrated gem!

Make sure you review the Armstrongs single. I don't really like it, it's pretty boring, but it's a new band by Billie joe Armstrong his son from swmrs, Tim armstrong and his nephew

You should do a throwback review of Nothing More's self titled album from 2014. They have a new album coming this September, and I feel like this will help the hype increase.

The track 'Viva la Vida' was my gateway to Coldplay. I was hooked when I first heard it at a wedding reception and I have no idea what the song's name is. The song just burned in my memory until it was played in our local music channel a few years afterwards.

I've been following the band ever since. 😊

(I've heard of Yellow, it did not stuck with me that much compared to Viva la Vida and Strawberry Swing)

Interesting what you said about yes, the second half of it is actually a separate song called Chinese sleep chant, but your point still stands, it's a beautifully artistic transition from the lustful and almost sinful tones of yes.

Nice review. Quick side note, Yes isn’t actually 7 mins long. The second part of it is a different song called Chinese Sleep Chant. The story is that they put a couple of hidden tracks attached to other songs so people got 2 songs for the price of one from iTunes!

I used to overlook this album when listening to Coldplay. Today, I sat down, in my room, and I just pressed play. I re-listened to all of the songs, even the Prospekt’s March songs. I discovered that I REALLY like this album. It’s in my top 3 albums from Coldplay. I will edit this comment later once I’ve figured out my favorites’ order. I know my favorites, but not the order: Yes, Violet Hill, Death and All His Friends, Glass of Water, Strawberry Swing, 42, and Viva La Vida. Strawberry Swing used to be my least favorite.

@Wrytho - 09.06.2022 02:51

honestly i think yes, chinese sleep chant, and viva la vida are the albums weak points but this is their first album that flows well enough that it no songs need to be skipped, whereas with their previous albums (parachutes’ ending, tracks 6-10 on arobtth, and pretty much every other song on x&y) had that problem and although i’m a hardcore believer that ghost stories was their best, vlvodaahf is a VERY close second

@Adyman182

The last huge art rock record I'd say, I think this album divides the modern and postmodern indie rock eras. Not to mention the band took a a huge nosedive after that, their next album being straight up pop, even featuring Rihanna.

I actually have a theory with this album, it is a representation of the cycle of life starting with life in technicolor and ending with death and all his friends. The cycle is not in order with the songs. The life cycle right before death and all his friends is 42 but other than that it is up to you to make a timeline.

Lost! Is personally my favorite song of all time, it's super underrated. I've been listening this song since I was 3 y/o back in 2008, over time I got know the meaning (maybe when I was 7 or 9) and it halp me around my age of 14 & January to June (some of my most depressing moments) and I'm proud to say I used this song as my graduation entrance.

My favorite version is the Lost@ Live version which gives me strenght and energy to never give up which is the topic of the song, which I think it's my most replayed song ever, bc it has appeard in Spotify rewind as my no 1 since 2018
