Hi there. Great review. Could i ask... if i use the sn850 in a gen 3 port, is there a chance i could damage the motherboard or sn 850?

Secondly, what kind of read /write speeds would i expect from the sn 850 in the gen 3 pcie slot?

Happy New Year sir and everyone.
Luckily my SN850 was an actual gift without obligation to return (lol)...
Having the same motherboard I am asking for your opinion: using the standard heatsink for nvme would keep the temperature under acceptable limits..?
Thanks in advance.

I literally just installed this in my pc lol. It runs insanely fast and it's fine. My X570 Mag comes with heat sinks and thermal tape underneath. I tan crystal mark and i got about 7060 mb/s read. Also my temps were way lower because I used it with a heat sync...like it's supposed to be. With all the mobos now, it makes no sense to run it bare and risk burning it out since its so high performance and needs to be cooled. no big deal.

Would be interesting to see regular use temps instead of test software's that if for cars would be like flooring the gas for an hour with no fan or wind over the radiator.

Bought this without the heatsink from a friend. Can't find it online. Anyone have a link to ONLY the Heatsink?? Also, planning to run this on z370 sli plus mobo. Should I be so concerned for temps if obvious throttling will occur anyways??? Thank you for any info!

Nice video. I almost bought one of these, but I don't have a gen 4 platform to take advantage of it so I just got the much cheaper sn750 with heatsink. My old NVME drive ran hot, idling in the 50's and benchmarking brought it close to 80c and this was in a Be Quiet 802 mesh panel case with 7x140mm fans. The WD sn750 with heatsink idles in mid 30's and only hits low 40's when benchmarking.

I only get 42 Write MB/s on the RND4K Q1T1. I'm using a PCIe 3.0 motherboard, but still, that's WAY behind. Rest of the measurements I have are about 1/2 the speed, even the other random reads. is this right?

Cheers! I own both SN850 and SN750 1TB disks (in my desktop Workstation). Now i want to add second M2 to my new laptop DELL XPS 15 (9520 PCIe4).
I tested the max temperatures in my PC with Crystaldisk and monitored temps with WD dashboard.

SN850 max 64 celsius (with MB heatsink, so not comparable)
SN750 max 75 celsius

I read on some forums the SN850 have huge power consumption and heats up really fast and hot. The main system disk in the laptop is PCIe4 already, i want to use the second for work and data (photo and video editing + data). So iam worried about the heat and power issue. I plan to install it with the original DELL Solid-state drive thermal bracket. Is it crytical still after the western digital firmware updates in 2022?

Do you recommend the SN850 or the SN750 for slim laptop? Is this a fact that PCIe4 consumes more power and heats up faster than PCIe3, or is it just a myth? :)

Will it affect the XPS 15 battery mutch?

Thanks for any insights and tips.

My WD Black SN750 get hella hot and it has the same heatsink as the one one the SN850. To give you a good example would be if you used a Bic lighter and burned your finger on the metal frame by the flint on top. So is this the norm with this drive even with the heatsink that is supplied with it.
