STOP Using Impact DRIVERS to Drill Holes!

On larger paddle bits i like using impact driver

It's not that you can't it is the issue of using it for every drill bit one example would be uni bits/step bits will not last as long in an impact it will rip the cutting edge off one or two of the steps pretty quickly

Angle drill is what I use to drill holes… aside from that, my dcd1007 one handed. I even use my angle drill one handed… granted I’m in my 20s so I probably won’t be doing the same crap when I’m 40+ … maybe lol

It's an auger bit traditional no it is supposed to be used by a drill. You don't see impact fence post augers do you? But I get your point impact works fine on auger fasteners like screws. So Im undecided to be honest. The winner is did it get the job done? Yes you win no still undecided

The entire mechanical system of an impact is exactly incorrect for drilling holes. It's about precision, not speed. You are drilling shitty holes with the impact

The only down side is that the impact can break the bits

They sell 1/4 to keyless Jacobs adapters, there are situations where using an impact is better with certain materials like stainless and mild. If you have quality hard twist bits you can positively laser through mild on an impact. I have the M12 and M18 fuel 1/4 driver and I'm considering just leaving the Jacobs adapter attached to the M12 for that purpose.

Drill is for drilling holes. I wont tell others what to do. But i will only drill holes with a drill or a hole hog. I will only fasten with a driver.

For wood . . . fine I'll take the "Either tool works" view but some of us aren't drilling wood. Try that shit with steel then come back and tell me how many bits you snapped.

If your on a job and just drilling a hole or 2 ... I don't see a problem. Saving time which is money.

You can drill with an impact driver if you´re not a dumbass. In Germany we got Bosch Professional specifically building Impact drill bits which are specifically made for impact drivers.
You can use them and they lock on your impact driver.

Drilling with whatever tool is closer to me is correct.

Preach on Vince . There's always the axiom of the right tool for the right job . Ive used pliers , drywall knives and yes even a screwdriver as a hammer .

Those 50 hole days it's the Impact in one hand, off-hand shielding/ containing the shrapnel by forming a cone around the flywheel/ shaft. Can't do that with a drill, and will never go back to being showered with wood chips all day.

Doing that will get the impact mechanism really hot and could damage the driver, thats was a drill is preferred. Its the right tool for the job

Dude your not using any type of impact all day though, that’s the thing. Yeah it’ll work good for the first 1-2 hours but it’s mess up the motor and burn it out. Were taking about all day work not a couple tries.

There s no the right way do do it! But in mor cases, speed matters, maybe the most. In some other cases the impact simply can't do the drilling, literally. Soo any serious worker imperative would have both ready to work.

Makw 30 wholes with each machine with exact same drilling bit in exact same material with similar batteries. And then check the discharge level of each battery. Not to mention the time for the same job but with different tool!
