Parents who have golden child and scapegoat child is why there's no need for enemies. For the simple reason there's no one else who can match the evil that a golden child's parents can exude.

I have 3 siblings. 2 brothers and 1 sister. My sister and brother in the middle were favored but not to this extreme. I dont know if my parents realized it. My little brother always thought something was wrong with him. He always tried to get their attention in good ways. Didn't really work. I believe they loved us all. Not favored at Christmas or birthdays but other ways. My little brother finally realized it was not him when we talked, and I explained things to him. He was yougest me oldest with 11 years between. We are very close. My brother cut everyone off, and I did not, but dont go out of my way for them. Parents passed. We are in 60's and 50's. I had kids and never treated them differently. They are different, with different needs. They know we love our kids. We tell them that all the time. This does happen in real life, maybe not that extreme or maybe some are.

They're going to be fine. They weathered their storm, and did it together.

Wait, wait, wait, the mother wants the daughter to change her engagement party plans, that’s already been scheduled, for the other daughter’s promotion which just happened?!!! Absolutely not!!! The daughter who just got the promotion can wait until some other time. The mother is way off base and it makes you wonder if there’s been some sort of favoritism going on during the sister’s childhood. The mother’s request is completely inappropriate and her manipulation to call the relatives to say the engagement was called off in order to redirect them to the sister’s party, is beyond the pale. Sometimes family can be your worst enemy.

I know a lady whose parents did this kind of crap to her.

I do not know why the Caucasian (Whites) parents have such favoritism. This is why the evil can easily influence them. These attutude often leads them to kill their own flesh and blood. I have observe this among the Whites.

When she has kids, it would’ve been bad for the kids to be around her mother and father and sister the bad people. You don’t want them around your children. I wouldn’t trust them with my children. That’s why my daughter never met my grandmother on my father side knew how bad she was when I was a child Because she was a narcissist, my aunts on that side cut the whole family off from my daughter. I went to visit them myself for funerals. I had to see the bodies to prove that it was real. And all over each one at a time when they’re narcissist the only thing to go to is a funeral.

Nothing wrong with having a promotion party. It was a big thing that she worked for.

BUT the party should have been scheduled at a different day. There is no reason for it to take over the engagement party.

If they had a better relationship, maybe they could have worked on a combined party. Call it a party for the family to celebrate the success of both daughters.

Been through this (NOT with my parents, fortunately, but with OTHER "supposedly close" relatives).

I told them off (no profanity allowed, but it was INTENSE!) for what they did to my mom, then I cut off the snakes.

I can't believe she KEPT TRYING to "make nice" with that evil group of selfish pigs. They didn't deserve her.

So what became of her toxic family after their plans failed. Did they find out that the wedding took place without them? Did she change her phone number so that they wouldn't harass her anymore? And have other friends and family members kept away from them after they found out the truth? Once again, another story with too many variables and too many questions left unanswered.

If this WAS real why would mom call everyone and say they broke up THEN call her daughter to have her give the sister the venue. That's the wrong order. Wow.

Been there - done that - and my mother was mad because I refused to be treated like a slave to her golden child and I was beaten and mistreated for years... My aunt said she should have spoken up and did something about it; but just didn't know how to.... My mother until the day she passed away - believed l was put on this planet too be a slave for her baby girl and that l had no rights to a life of my own.. I was supposed to go to work and give my paychecks to the golden child and live in my mother's basement as the slave l was. I left home and my mother started phoning around looking for me and learned that I had left town and moved to the West coast and wasn't coming back. About a week or two later the police showed up at my door and informed me that as a minor -- they had no choice but to send me back.. YOU should have seen the look on the guy's face when I provided proof I was 27 years old and I don't want any thing to do with her and I am not a slave,no matter what she said.. the police officer was really angry and he reported it to his boss and he phoned the old hag and told her that she was lucky that he didn't bring charges against her and to. Never bother me again or she wouldn't like what he did to her..l had a good life for years with out any of them...l am now the last one alive and l got no problem with it...

Some times there is no way to fix thing and your family is oblivious, and Im glad your grandmother understands. However I think I would have published all the ugly texts from family on social media so every one knows what they were like. Then when things continue take all the evidence to the police to file charges for harassment!

OP should make up for the last debacle by offering to book the same venue to celebrate Lauren's new demotion, it should make the parents happy

Had the sister just picked her own date instead of trying to screw her sister she would have had her own party as she wanted.

A promotion party over the engagement party? I’m tired of parents having favorites if you have more than one kid, you love them for different reasons.

The classic cliche of the narcissist: Don't be selfish when they are being entitled, ego-centric and ultimately selfish themselves.

It is a relief to eventually have the support of her fiancé/husband, his parents, friends and relatives behind her. In addition, the truth about the bullying and abusive treatments over the years by her spoilt sister and parents habe been exposed.
