You kept saying check phase, but never offered and in depth explanation on how to. Great.

Wouldn't the use of 5 mice require your interface to have 5 spots to plug in?

You mention; to check phase on the 2 mic setup. I understand the concept, but how do you actually know when something is out of phase?

So he says to check phase a lot, without telling us how to do that. I know speaker phase check but I’m not sure about mic phase.

Check polarity check polarity keep checking polarity. I hate that face and polarity are used interchangeably even by professional.

Personally am a fan of the 2 mic setup. To my ear, it sounds most natural to mesh with a traditional "in-room" rhythm section; late '60s.

Very nice video and well explained, but of course you cannot compare a home studio with 100$ mics vs a professional recording studio with a 2000$ drum set and 600$ microphones in a well treated acoustic room, with good preamps etc. I don't have a 600$ condenser omnidirectional mic like the 414 to get the same sound.

Great video I actually have all my toms mic'd up and don't believe I really need all those to get a good drum sound This would eliminate 4 mics. I'm liking the 5 mic setup My question is besides having my stereo overheads equidistant from the snare, do they also need to be equidistant from the bass drum? Also the placement of the room mic behind kit. I would need to place it behind my right shoulder right up against the wall. Is this ideal or should I just experiment with this? I like to have a shield in front of kit as this isolates bleed very well from other instruments Its in a small basement room Room is treated pretty well with a cloud above kit so my mics are about 4' above snare just below cloud Please any advice would be appreciated Thanks!

I wouldn't do a room with a condenser, room mic is probably the most useless especially for people who can only afford 5 mics because they won't have a good sounding room anyways. I would also get 2 SM57 for kick snare and I would get the Behringer c2 for overhead. 4 mics is enough, heck if you want more start with snare bottom then floor tom.
