Bravo Esophageal pH Test | What You Need To Know

I had this procedure done yesterday morning, I did experience a slight discomfort afterwards, but today I have no discomfort at all.

Yeah this sucks everything I eat hurts

I should have viewed this video ahead of time. would have appreciated if the doctor told me that there is some slight pinching, spasms when swallowing. today, I called and the nurse said it lessens after the 2nd day.

the other issue: the video says "not to graze" but the capsule makes it very difficult to swallow/injest more than a tablespoon of food every 5 mins.

the pinching, spasm sensation became tolerable -- even though I got jabbing spasm in my neck, back or chest. I think it's esophageal spasms.

I have ADHD. so day one, with the sedation still in my system, and i was overwhelmed. I couldnt keep the data correctly.

also, the displayed time on the monitor is not the correct time ( it's in standard time, I'm in day light savings time now. you need to use the monitor's time on the log. this way your written data corresponds to the device's captured ph data)

day two, I'm here learning. the behavioral training is actually the hardest part for me:
1) making sure I press the correct button, firmly enough so that it actually activated.
2) turning off the button
3) logging the info. I'm using small a notebook so i can make my comments corrections where there is space. I will transfer it onto the template the doctor gave me.

because I can barely eat, I don't have much post eating related reflux. I don't know how helpful this test is.

It is very uncomfortable. You feel as if u’ve swallowed a bunch of capsules supplements and got stuck in your esophagus.. u feel it even when u swallow your salive.

I had this put in me today and my acid reflux went from hardly noticeable to very painful and now everything I do seems to seems to cause some acid reflux and I really hope it stops soon. I’m beginning to think this was more trouble than it was worth.

This is a lie I have pain in my chest every time I eat. I'm on my 3rd day and feel horrible to where I don't want to eat

my green light is on contantly now. it says data not recorded, but cant do anything, im on my last day. Help

Ive had 6 of these procedure and barely even noticed it was happening until it was over. 17 minutes total and no pain or after effects of any kind

If you sleep with 30 degree wedge so you still push the laying down button?

My GI doc decided to tell me moments before I fell asleep today that it would cause some pain! I was like WHAT?! And for me, it hurts. Every time I swallow, it hurts. It feels like the worst heartburn, so I can’t tell what is heartburn and what is the machine. I found that it eases the pain with swallowing when I lean to my left side.

Had this procedure yesterday. No issues at all.

I’m in the processof this now, which is the second part of my test, had another one done in office, it’s uncomfortable, it’s uncomfortable to swallow and breathe without it burning at times. Glad I go back in morning to take it out 😢

What if my primary symptom is chronic cough. What button do I press?

I had this procedure last week and I did not experience any discomfort. I was afraid to eat whatever I wanted because my reflux is triggered by certain foods and you are not allowed to take the PPI medication. It did beep more often than I liked, but otherwise, no complaints.

I’m scheduled for this procedure on this Wednesday. Many days I cannot clear my throat, leads me to be unable to talk at times. After seeking multiple doctors I was told it’s due to acid reflux even though I don’t have any symptoms other then this rattling phlegm that obstructs my vocal cords so much there are times when I cannot talk. Particularly noticeable when I’m making phone calls.

My question is how will this procedure benefit me? What follow up treatment is there?

I’m scheduled to have this test. I don’t have any symptoms this records but I do have throat congestion that interferes with my speaking. Will this procedure be beneficial for tracking my symptoms?

The test is done for me only 2 days of the machine but don't think the capsule has dropped yet, can I go back to smoking my weed even though it hasn't dropped yet?

I had one put in almost 72 hours ago but the red light keeps flashing and won't stop. Even after placing it on my chest for 50 minutes. It's not been 96 hours.

Hated it. It actually came up into my throat!! Come to find out my GI Dr. Office does NOT have anyone who can read the test!! Check 1st. Unreal. Never ever again. Never again.

When you post it won't it beep like mad cos you're out if range??

So I need to do this procedure but I did a metal test and it turns out I'm allergic to nickel and cobalt. But I need this test. What are the risks? How long does it stay in me?

Yes, this thing does hurt in the chest. I don’t know why people say it doesn’t. It sucks. Plus I’m having severe reflux since I can’t take the meds during this test. Ugh I’m miserable.

After reading these comments I was teriffied as my 4 year old had this fitted, almost done with the test and can honestly say he's not complained once of discomfort or pain, he's eaten and drank as normal, only thing he mentioned was a sore throat from the camera! I think it's very dependant on the surgeon and where they place the device but so far no issues! Just hoping the device falls out and he passes this without issue

I had my procedure today and I was scared out of my mind bc I read the comments on this video earlier. And you all spoke about pain but I have to say that that has not been my portion, thank God 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼. There was some discomfort when I ate and swallowed a bigger bolus than I should have. But that's it! Different strokes for different folks, I guess 🤷🏽‍♀️

I had the procedure a few days ago and just wanted to come back to say that I don't really feel any pain at all. Just some soreness and a bit of discomfort. Because the comments here scared me pretty bad beforehand but at least in my experience its not terrible.

All those medicines are completely useless and ridiculous. Those ppis and antacids do more harm than good idk if its just laziness on behalf of studying doctors and ignore new evidence of these pills or is just protocol to hand these pills like candy . See a nutritionist to see what diet suits you and how it can help you. Doctors will never help you if you have severe reflux you need to be realistic once you have gerd or lpr you will have it for life, but fear not it gets better once you control it and ease reflux, the effects over time it will allow you to reintroduce some foods(some) i cant remember how many of these tests ive done and how many doctors ive seen . I was sick of it. Sick of 3 gastroenterologists who could care less and just offering different variants of ppis. I was sick of being in pain . Sick of waiting on appointments. After 8 long years(im 22 while writing this and had lpr and gerd since 14 and developed throat ulcers for a while) i had had enough of this. I research eveything about my condition and read everything about my diagnosis. I started a strict strict diet for 3 months(i had to do it longer because my throat ulcers that developed due to pepsin and some acid reaching the larynx this takes time to heal be patient if you do have sore throat or lump in throat sensation. ) on my 4th month i feel so great!!!! My throat is healed and i can finally sing and do whatever i want without my reflux hurting me or leaving me suffering. Many doctors wont help you when it coems to reflux. You have to be willing to help yourself and care for yourself. These doctors prescribe medicine that is all they do they dont know what exactly we experienced i cant begin to tell you the dumb docs who told me i had it because of anxiety or because i was a drug abuser like wth they just assume things then give me meds. Diet is the key to controlling and living a better life. Not medicine not surgery just so you can go back to eating like crap then the symptoms come back (which is what happens to 40 percent of patients who get anti reflux surgery after 10 years. Diet my friend is necessary and probiotics(preferably not capsules just fermented foods or kefir or others . Its no suprise we have so many stomach issues in our society. It isnt natural, modern diets have moved from food that all animal life eats such as veggies, seeds and fruit and so on and lean meat. We mived to a very horrible diet of processed food and greasy food and overly acidic food that is in no way good for us yet we feed our children this and wonder why we have more and more cases of stomach related issues. Its up to us to realize lifestyle and diet are the main priority.

I had this put in this morning. Have not had pain at all. Clock reset early was all. Worst part was getting an IV started. Do have heartburn though.

It feels like a potato chip stuck in your esophagus. The discomfort comes and goes. You also get an investigation of your upper digestive tract when they insert it, so they can detect other problems. I’d say it’s not too bad, just annoying.

I am using the device. Yes, the first day is very painful to swallow. Second day is still painful but not as bad if you eat very soft diet. I noticed that with any other food is very painful. This is the second time i had this done. The chest pain from the capsule is there when your esophagus muscles are moving. Is mostly because it is a wound at the site where the capsule is inserted and also because capsule is big. As of right now, i have pain but not as bad as 1st day. I still have another 2.5 days of it.

Had to have mine removed at the E.R. the pain was excruciating and I started to have chest pain. The GI doctor didn't push it out he actually removed it completely. And once it was gone I am 80% better.

There’s absolutely nothing terrible I have suffered than this serious acid reflux disease. I had my tonsils out as an adult and as painful as that was, this bravo ph thing is excruciatingly painful. I’m currently barely making it through my first 24hours. Every time I swallow whether food or just saliva I get a sharp stabbing pain like my esophagus is ripping open. I can’t wait until the stupid thing falls off. This is the worst procedure I’ve ever had to go through 😭😭😭 I want to cry

Can anyone share how long theirs stayed in place? I am on day 5 and it’s def still there, it’s weird, I feel it more today like I did on my first day. I don’t know if that’s a sign of dislodging? Help!

I hate this capsule it is so uncomfortable. I returned the receiver today and I have been trying to eat things that will force it to let go of my esophagus. I’ve had no luck.

I must be the 1% as well because I had it put in about 13 hours ago and I'm in excruciating pain!! Also, my physician did not send a journal or tell me to keep one and they did not tell me I had to push any buttons on the monitor or even explain the monitor. All I was told was keep it within 3 feet and don't sip drinks. That was it in total!! Here I am at 11:56 PM in so much pain that I cannot even sleep or take a deep breath.

This is so funny! After reading the comments it must be a lot more than 1% with pain! I could not swallow the first day. Better now but the darn thing wakes me up beeping in the middle of the night for no reason.

These instructions are incorrect. You have to push the symptom button twice because the device goes into sleep mode.

I can’t find anywhere where it actually states what keeps the bravo in place. Is it glued? Pinned? Suctioned?
