his sense of time is amazing!

Kills me. Amazing.

Love the sound of his piccolo snare drum. David is a very technical drummer i.e. everything about his style physically suggests a "thinking" drummer. Yet, if you listen to his playing on Tower of Power records, there is nothing mechanical about his sound at all. It's always struck me as funny....the seeming dichotomy between the way he looks when he plays and the way he sounds when he plays.
