Absolutely love this. Two of the real greats of music ❤️
ОтветитьI wish you’d do a book, or have someone knowledgable sit down with you and do a series of long-form interviews. You’re the best, sir!
ОтветитьDanny Thompson can justifiably carry the badge “Living Legend”. He and John were a ‘marriage’ made in heaven. An incredible meeting of minds at the right time for each of them. Danny’s own story is incredible. Support band in a strip club until the jazz bands came on until 7a.m. and he could sit in with them? Proper apprenticeship, that is. Had no idea how he acquired his upright bass and how he’s played it throughout his career. Fabulous. The guitar equivalent of finding a ‘58 Les Paul in somebodys attic and paying fifty quid for it. Keep on rockin’, Danny.
ОтветитьJust brilliant. I'm a musician guitar play. You want to come play a gig in a few pubs around Norfolk?😂
ОтветитьLegends. Thank you for your work and the magic you've added to so many albums.
ОтветитьLEGEND
ОтветитьWhat a fXXckin beautiful man. Around 1985 or so, when he was not unknown, my girlfriend shared a weekly bus ride with him as they were on a day release music therapy course together. Down to Earth, loveable, ordinary bloke who just happens to play bass on 30 or 40% of my all time favourite music recordings.
ОтветитьNo one. Absolutely, nobody on this planet could have accompanied John's music as well as you did. You are a superstar. You both are. So much love to you, Danny. ❤
Ответить1973, old grey whistle test. Your backing on "Make no mistake," with John is my favorite sound I STILL have ever heard. You two were magical together. You played absolutely beautifully.
ОтветитьThaNKyou SO MUCH to the universe for you and John Martyn meeting and working together and THANKYOU to You for your wonderful playing. I keep hoping to see you in concert...Are you still playing gigs??? 🙏 🙏
ОтветитьLovely tribute to a great musician from a great musician, Solid Air is one of my all time favourites, should be available on the NHS.
ОтветитьThe Master. Danny is so self effacing and a salt of the earth sort of man. Only discovered John Martyn a few years back, sadly. Still, better late than never. What an incredible connection they had going on.
ОтветитьOne of the greatest musical pairings in history. Words cannot express how much John & Danny's magical musical synergy delighted and moved me and many other '70s stoneheads.
ОтветитьDanny and Richard Thompson were great, Danny and Nick Drake were awesome, Danny and John Martyn were the absolute pinnacle and will never be bettered.
ОтветитьTwo great musicians -brilliant fusion of musicianship.
ОтветитьThank you, Mr. Thompson, for your music and your art ! You sure created some of your finest moments together with John Martyn. Transatlantic Sessions Solid Air is a highlight, absolutely.
I would not mind hearing more from you, music and stories. I believe that he only told you play and then you will have a solo, because he knew that you sure will deliver, that is how one can deal with musicians you can trust 100 %. You always did, but here you created something special.
I really liked the musicianship of Danny and the other members of Pentangle in the early 70s; particularly Lite Flight, which i thought was beautifully performed.
ОтветитьJust watched Johnny Too Bad again. Really struck by the musicianship of Danny & John together. Sheer virtuosity, given full reign.
ОтветитьGroovy man....One of my favourite musicians -real talk&lots of soul
ОтветитьI love everything you did with John Martyn. The sound you made together was timeless, unique and glorious.
ОтветитьWhy do the video subtitles reference 'Solitaire'?...
ОтветитьReally loved the man!💞
ОтветитьMate..I wonder if you still have the big painting of a train running thru a countryside..sorta Peter Max) I gave you at a Pentangle concert in the late 60's in SF. THANK YOU Danny for all your wonderful music and spirit thru the years.. BIG FAN! and yeah Solid Air on the Trans-Atlantic sessions was so great. Cheers Mick
ОтветитьGod bless you, Danny. Your playing was absolutely sublime on so many songs. Nice to hear your old London accent - rarely heard these days as London changes. London used to be a beautiful Lady when in her prime and I was blessed to have been born there.
Ответитьgenius connection
ОтветитьMillions of people would love to have that 'touch on the shoulder' but never get it!!
ОтветитьLEGEND!!!!
ОтветитьYou are one of my heroes, as was John. Thank you for making such wonderful music.
ОтветитьBeautiful
ОтветитьThank you for this. Was lucky enough to see the Sunshine Boys live in Glasgow, utter magic.
Ответить"Bosh! Get on that!" Top man. Love it when you and John played together. A much missed pairing.
ОтветитьSO glad I stumbled upon this. Wishing you much love and good health in the days and years to come. I first became aware of your work and talents on the Pentangle records, but years later received the lp Live at Leeds as part of a present from a British musician as a "thank you" gift for allowing him and his mate to stay in my apartment while they were in my neck of the woods (they were friends of a friend). One go round on the turntable and I was hooked. From that Ip I found my way to the music of Nick Drake. Saw John Martyn a few years later in the US a handful of times (Alan Thomson was playing bass) and am forever grateful I was there to witness his mad talent (mesmerizing and brilliant). And much thanks to you for all the wonderful music I've enjoyed so much that you've been a part of (and that you're still here to tell the tales...or at least some of them). The work you did with John Martyn was truly a thing of beauty to behold. ❤☮🌎
ОтветитьHe was a lovely person. I was lucky to meet John a few times working as a freelancer at The BBC in the 80’s. When you played together it was just awesome. Thanks for posting this video.
ОтветитьNo turntable at moment, however, my JM vinyl are my pride n joy. Thankyou so much for the great music.
ОтветитьDanny still sharp as a tack in his mid 80s. God bless you lad
ОтветитьIs not Solitaire, it's Solid Air, as far as I know...
Ответить1987 Mayfest in Glasgow. There were only 3 of us in the audience at the Tron Theatre. Me, my twin brother and my pal Douglas. You and your band played an amazing set from your album 'Whatever'. You asked us ' are your two twins?', Do you remember this? We were and remain massive fans of your music to this day. Keep on keeping on Danny.
ОтветитьVisceral.., unmissable..
John Martyn & Danny Thompson.
Thanks for the wonderful music guys.
John was at his best when it was just the two of you. You were a formidable team.
ОтветитьNew fan but the more I hear, the more I feel like John Martyn might be the greatest singer/songwriter who ever lived. And you really brought him home.
ОтветитьI doubt any other live duo was as real as you. Legends! Your music is one of the biggest sources of inspiration throughout my life, thank you for that!
ОтветитьDanny is one of the most influential bassists in my life. I wish I could find the words to show my appreciation for a member of the most moving group I've ever held dear.
ОтветитьDoes anyone have a link to the video of the Solid Air recording he discusses??
ОтветитьWhen you get to that level of understanding between two great musicians, they must have reached a very special place.
ОтветитьDanny Thompson is a musical genius. So much appreciate his contributions to Richard Thompson's work. Not to mention Pentangle, Nick Drake, and John Martin.
ОтветитьI love that track too
ОтветитьSaw Danny and John M live at Sheffield Uni Union circa 1976 - John was probably drunk and drugged but the memory of that gig lives on longer than most I’ve seen before and since.
