What a shame their nameplates haven't been removed, I've noticed that before on your videos.
Well, they look fairly past it now.
Very interesting, thank you.
it would be be a good idea to salvage components like the power units and various other components to be reconditioned for spares etc. they should have not been left like this in the first place, but more than likely due to clown activity within the railway, as with the class 86's at Freightliner
ОтветитьIt's criminal what DB are doing to the 60's, leaving them to rot. They did exactly the same with their 90's because they couldn't be arsed to look after them. Freightliner kept all theirs so WHY couldn't DB do the same?.
ОтветитьApparently 5 of them are returning because the /6s are not working as expected. Those returning will be the ones that weren’t up for sale and just stored in Toton yard
ОтветитьSo sad to see the most trains we all know and love just sitting in scrap lines and rotting away in storage, i really do hope some of these units could be salvaged and restored but chances are slim 😔
ОтветитьToton Shed, with a shed-load of sheds on shed. Shame about the 60s- they seem to have been under-utilised and sidelined after a much shorter service life compared to other classes. I'm sure there will be reasons why, but it does seem to be a huge waste.
ОтветитьI would like to see them back in service even if just for some variety amongst the motive power.
ОтветитьA lot of those 66s are now stored too. I have a list that I put together if anyone is interested.
ОтветитьProblem is likely down to the AWS systems all being stripped out & used elsewhere, these would be a great candidate for re working out all their mechanical & electrical flaws but because the AWS has been taken out, that leaves these at a disadvantage because the AWS is very expensive to install as a new part. There has also been many other safety systems implicated since these were taken out of service.
Personally I would have rather seen these locos overhauled & used over all of the class 66 locos we have now.
So different than when we use to run in with coal trains from Shirebrook West, Depot was full of 44s/45s/46s/47s and of course 20s good days gone forever, Take care ps real pity Toton dosent have open days.
ОтветитьDB...... declining business.
ОтветитьA lot of 'lower' tech countries would buy such locomotives to run there industry and services. Just as Canada did in the 90's ice storm when the electric grid collapsed under the ice load. Diesel electric locos powered the hospitals in the cities. In Nigeria a EMD loco power unit drives a steel mill. Need to think outside the box Make good power modules for the new Antonov An-225 (Thunderbird 2) to deliver. And they already have wheels and traction motors to move themselves. With new tech. (wind, solar) not being fully proven yet as a grid supply, standby generators are a must.
ОтветитьSad to see, but i was never a fan of the Class 60.
ОтветитьIt's quite depressing to see all those locos disused and not just the 60s.There are too many freight companies all competing for work and I wonder which one will be the first to go under?
Ответитьwhat's happening to the one that went to Longport is that having the class 69 treatment?
ОтветитьI wonder if it could be possible to buy 10 of these Class 60's to repurpose them as passenger locomotives? Here is what I would do to get this off the ground and I am open to collaboration on this project too. The first step is to gut all 10 of these locomotive to the bare frame and then reach out to Stadler and arrange for one to be sent over to their plant in Spain (assuming there is no UK plant to facilitate this) and have the cabs rebuilt with all the control consoles like that used in the Euro4001 and have the same sounding horns as those too. The main steps would be to add HEP (Head End Power) to feed the passenger cars, replace the traction motors with AC types for 103mph top speed, power unit would be the MTU 20V4000 all with Stadler traction motors, inverters, air conditioned cabs, cab layout similar to that of the Australian NR class but with touch screens and ETCS and other modern vital safety systems. Its a lot to digest but despite all the new equipment inside, the outer shell would look very much minimal changes with the exception of recessed horns and a central light above the windscreens and added ETH/HEP train feeder cables. Just my thoughts and I really want to make this happen. Coaching stock would be some new CAF Mk5a's like TPE has but for formations of 1+7 and 1+9 as push-pull trains for Cross Country services. Much better and more comfortable than the Voyagers. Just my thoughts on the matter.
ОтветитьI just want money so i can buy it all
ОтветитьFix them or scrap them
ОтветитьThe only rescue would be refurb and sold abroad.
ОтветитьThat is why I don't go to Toton it is such a depressing and sad place
ОтветитьWhat a shame. It reminds me of Tinsley, back in the day
ОтветитьThey must be keeping them for something or they would have scrapped them already. They hold up well to being stored outside compared to older classes. The UK government needs to back rail freight to get more trucks off the road if they keep on making climate policies that negatively affect rail freight. We should be running more and longer freight trains. The coal and and steel days are gone but containerised lorryload traffic must be more competitive by rail.
ОтветитьHellvelyn screamed past me whilst out with the dog last night on the Drax biomass train. What a thing... Great looking locos too
ОтветитьNo work for them and too costly to keep running . DB in decline . I worked on them from when they were brand new at Canton. Soon as there were not based at home depot the standards fell.
ОтветитьI think a heritage railway should buy one or two
ОтветитьToton is being closed down in 2026 due to Wabtech centralising their operations to Swindon and a new facility outside of Reading. They’ll have to be shifted by then I suppose.
ОтветитьIt's a pity that some of the 60s were not used for passenger service, they would have done well.
ОтветитьI recall only too well lines of Peaks awaiting scrapping at Toton.
ОтветитьAn absolute waste and disgrace of a relatively young class of locomotive.
ОтветитьExcellent video as always 👍
ОтветитьDB seems to have little work in there own back yard…… No wonder most of there locos are mothballed
ОтветитьBeatiuful video ,greetings from Asturias 👍🚂👋
ОтветитьI’ll take one
ОтветитьWhat a sad site, the last British built locos. 😢
ОтветитьMe personally I'd restore as many of them as possible and send them to Poland and Ukraine as their railway needs extra locomotives for rebuilding
ОтветитьUnfortunately not
Like the class 58s before them rhey are doomed
do know they’d be used on stuff whixh could be used to take contracts away from them
RIP class 60, such a lovely loco and don’t deserve this fate.
Ответитьyou take your life in your hands walking to the bridge on the A52'good shots though
ОтветитьAll will go……………along with a lot of type 66 that’s what I’ve heard because there’s no work for them and scrap value has skyrocketed also a lot of businesses are putting their trade on the road
ОтветитьHi. I am very disappointed with what I see in this video. All of those 60's and 66's just sitting there rotting away. I don't see the point in buying new loco's when there are all those just sitting there. Its criminal that this is being allowed. There are some that are beyond saving but I am sure that with work a lot of these loco's could be re-started and re-used. Its such a shame to see. Regards.
Ответить3 of my mates just bought a 60 from Toton 👍👍
ОтветитьYouve just got to see the amount of lorries on our over congested roads and wonder why there is no freight to pull for these locomotives. This year alone the railways have lost all the oil trains from Grangemouth and the Bitumen trains to Preston docks
ОтветитьThe majority seem to have been there for years, so it begs the question as to why they haven’t been broken up. Having been derelict for years then surely there is little chance of any of these being resurrected for mainline use. Meanwhile several thousands of pounds in scrap metal just sits there and continues to disintegrate. It also puzzles me why the class 69 project utilises redundant 45+ year old class 56 body shells when these newer class 60s are still still available. Does DB Cargo have some sort of ultimate plan for them?
ОтветитьDB will not switch any of the 60's back on and into traffic. They now make excellent nesting areas for the birds.
Ответить60057 has or going to be scrapped
ОтветитьAll These Class 60s Are non runners get spare parts of there sister locos keep them running on mainline its shame see these locos just be stored up at Toton doing nothing in storage when byere can be found these locomotives we waste loco good locos hear uk buy imported crap overseas i hate Uk Government for this shite 😑👎
ОтветитьAre these really scrappers, if so how much did they cost to buy for such a short total life?????
ОтветитьIf enthusiast can resurect locomotives why can't this German run (British railway) do it, once again bloody foreign imports over took the great British trains, jjust like the illegal immigrants taking over Britain.
ОтветитьIf class 56s can be re-engined and reborn as class 69s - what' stopping people doing that with the class 60s?
Ответить
