Thanks for sharing this
I visited the battlefield when I was in the Officer's Advanced Course in Fort Bliss, TX
I remember it as hot and desolate, about how it looks in the video. It is interesting to see how the terrain, fortifications, and the circumstances led to the battle being where it was.
Condolences to your family on your wife's nana's passing. She obviously had a great impact on your family.
Peace, and many thanks again for sharing.
WAS NOT THE CIVIL WAR > ABE'S WAR , ABE WAS A BAD BOY
ОтветитьMy Grand father was born in Valverde, so was my auntie Rosita.he died at 90 yrs. ,in the 1970s. Love to see this video. Thank you.❤
ОтветитьWe love you too, Nana! R.I.P...Hey Steve, and wife sorry for your loss...
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьThat was a fascinating little campaign!
ОтветитьWirklich sehr sehr schön, danke
ОтветитьThe Rebels won battle one month later.. but their supply wagons were (again) destroyed by Kit Carlson and a Union scouting party. so the Rebs had to retreat with little ammo and little food out of New Mexico! They buried three canons in the desert on the retreat.
ОтветитьThanks!
ОтветитьSteve,
My belated condolences to your wife, you and son.
Trying to catch up on past videos and came to this one.
As always, great job. Thank you.
As you and your family travel down the road, be comfort in knowing Grandmother is always with you.
ОтветитьSorry about your family loss
ОтветитьThx. I wish you well!
ОтветитьI go dove hunting on the old battlefield all the time. That northern tip of the mesa where it meets the river is quite gorgeous over there and I often think of the poor souls that lost their lives in such a enchanting area. Found a couple of things lying around also, pretty cool
ОтветитьSeveral comments I've seen have noted you background music. I agree, mellifluous and calming - without disturbing your content. Of all your videos watched, this background music is my favourite. May we know what - and who - it is? Thank you in advance.
ОтветитьI've driven past that exit more times than I can count. Thank you for the excellent history lesson! I need to take a look.
Love your comment about the bomb-proof warehouse, and the Apaches not being known for their artillery! 😆 Good one! However, they were fierce enough to make up for any lack of artillery.
Condolences to your family🕊️
Rest. in Peace Nana
ОтветитьYour warmth glows through each video!
ОтветитьEnjoying your videos too. Cheers to Nana. RIP.
ОтветитьSuch is history, battles are mostly forgotten except by those who were there.
ОтветитьRIP Nana 💔
ОтветитьI loved stopping at Fort Craig! Thank you for sharing, and though it's been a while, so sorry for your loss.

Clapp, Peter Lewis (private) age 20 in 1860; enrolled in Company A, 5th Texas Cavalry, on August 17, 1861 at Columbus; wounded and captured at Valverde, February 21, 1862; paroled at Santa Fe, August 19, 1862; exchanged and returned to company.
The Buffalo Soldiers had the ultimate reason to fight the Confederates. Winning a battle was not just for the moment, they were preserving the freedom of all African-Americans.
ОтветитьGod bless Nana!
ОтветитьThe ValVerde battlefield is now private land owned by Ted Turner.
In order to get on the battlefield you need to rent one of his cabins and pay an exhorbitant rate for the "battlefield tour"
Such a shame for what was a comparatively small action in regards to Civil War combat.
Great video. So sorry for your loss, condolences to you and your family.
ОтветитьSorry for your and your wife's family's loss
ОтветитьThey also had an outbreak of small pox and a camp for quarentie was set up on top of Black Mesa, at one piont.

ОтветитьMay her soul Rest In Peace.
ОтветитьThe Civil War the US west is frequently neglected in favor of the east. At Glorietta the regimental deputy to the Colorado Vountters was a former Mehodist missionary to the Indians, Major John Milton Chivinvton. He lead a raid that destroyed the entire Confederate wagon train and reserve stock of horses and mules while the Battle of Glorietta was in progress. This destruction prompted the Confederates to conduct the longest retreat in US history, back to Texas. Back through the land and population that they had invaded, with Fort Craig still intact on their line of retreat. The invasion was a Confederate disaster, sometimes called "the Gettysburg of the west" Chivington was chosen by the officers to replace the orignal regimental comander, who resigned after disobeying instructions not to engage the enemy, and also because some of his own troops had shot at him. Chivington subsequently went on to national disgrace when he promoted the Sand Creek Massacre.
Sincere thanks for insight into this neglected area.
I really liked the way you did this.I want more. The body passes The Spirit is always with us.
ОтветитьWhen I was 8 years old I ask my grandmother about the Civil War. She replied, my father was in a Rebel Cavalry outfit that fought in New Mexico. Thanks for the amazing video.

Been through Craig, Colorado a few times. Named after the same person, maybe? Haven't heard of this battle, thanks, for the enlightenment. My Grandmother was a teacher, and a world traveler, I guess that's where my dad, and I got our wanderlust. Sorry for your family's loss.
