Its helpful to be familiar with your tools. I use the same compression for my drum samples every time and the same chain for my vocals. Pretty much same eq for mybvocals. And mayyybe just an extra tad of adjustment in the end for clean up if it needs it, whatever it may be. Its judt work flow.

Yeah you can make a template that says "FX Chain Mastering" and have your mixer track just be a long list of FX that youve made and keep adding to. When youre done with a project you import the stems into that template and start a vocal fx pass. Its just one way of doing things. But I'm more interested in what other ppl do. How do you work on your projects?

Look this is how home recording artists who mix their own shit snd master their own shit survive .. we build presets and templates to make our sound happen naturally without going through hell setting up everytime .. we literally set the buses and shit up .. all u do is set a bus for shit like that and it would help make it easier.. so its not strategy or technique its about workflow

Not to be a CLA simp bc I’m tired af of ppl still using CLA Vocals but he been doin that forever…

There was all the waves videos with him on that when they made CLA Epic for a similar purpose; however, the plugin is a bit limited for use in a similar capacity without a different workflow than this exact one of all the separate FX tracks.

Another important thing is automating the faders on those returns, so maybe the 1/8 that didn’t work in the hook works in the verses and the 1/2 that works in the hook doesn’t work in the verses and like only putting the micro shift fader up on the hooks, etc.

So just to be clear so I know what to do when I get home lol.

You record raw. Maybe a compressor on. Then have all the vocal FX in the master? Or are we talking about something like studiorack where theres just a rack with all the different plugins and you can bypass or have active and see there which sounds good before the master?

I'm learning so this doesn't mean anything to me. I get the point about testing elements of the chain. But that doesn't tell me anything about what they used.
