Most Played MMORPGs 2025

Happy to see a lot of my favorite games on this list! I play all of these at least a few times per year.

WIZARD101 as a current player who came back due to changes I can 100% say the changes KI has made makes Wizard101 a clear contender for a spot I'm amazed too see such a thriving community and with new releases like portal of perial makes it no longer heavy to the succeeding paywalls for even more free spells. Guilds are on the rise, as well as raiding. Yearly updates plus updating any outdated content like wizardcity and krokotopia! They currently are fixing older parts of game to make it more enjoyable quest experience which is rare to see in a Mmorpg these days. Transmoging is very cheap you will notice any purchasable gear is same or less as what you can earn in raids so you don't see much difference for any pay to win either. However its not a free to play you really do need a subscription however you get more than what you typically get compared to other subs for a reasonable price.

I am glad that Maplestory is still thriving. I played that game back in highschool, the same time as Ragnarok PH went live.

Where is Metin2 ?
it got 30k min in total official sv's + private ones ( wich are alot more popular then oficial )
You know even nowadays some can make thousands of Euros are made from a single weapon on that game ( on the official server .. private ones have ppl selling more gold then weapons )

Well if your not part of the comunity is kinda hard to find popular private servers and where the players are at on the oficial servers

Why does it seem like every MMO basically dies within a year of launch? Everyone goes micro transaction and/or pay to win. Why can people understand players just want good mechanics, decent graphics, and content. Whose playing games to but skills and emotes... i play a game, to play a game.

it's pathetic how incapable the mmo dev companies have become, just sitting there and sucking the blood out of "their" fossil creations, while we (the players) take it deep in our asses..

Lost ark has a massive bot problem and always has.

Throne and liberty is indeed a slog of a grind with 1% drop rates on dungeon loot, but hey you can just buy your bis weapon with your credit card lol.

Lost Ark is shit and was shit from the moment I got out of the forced introduction. It never got any better and was a "virtual copy" of a game that came years before it that, for me, was a better game. I tried again a week or so ago and was so annoyed by it that I uninstalled and deleted it permanently. This after I spent money on the introductory package for players that wanted to have a headstart.

Aslong as reddit exists we will never have a good mmo. Every good mmo gets ruined by like 1k cry babies crying about pvp being end game.

I think your description of Once Human was super misleading. you stated that the seasonal resets see the world change each time. This is highly misleading. The world does not change in any way between seasons, the same story, the same missions, the same enemies and the same locations are there each season, nothing about the world actually changes. What does change is modifiers, like the current red mood which makes enemies more aggressive at night time. Other than having more agressive enemies at night, nothing else is different on your second playthrough, you'll be doing the same stuff over and over each season

I would put a big asterisk with the BDO numbers and estimates, as the game heavily incentivizes AFK'ing. I bet only half the amount of players shown is actually actively playing the game.

eve online is dead ... what are u talking about ?? new pilots dont stay , way to expancive, u kinda need multiple alts , devs are money hungry and dont care ...
so real player number is much lower ... on avrage each player has 2 alts ..

Guys I'd like to add 2 mentions that I found to be far more enjoyable...Lord of the rings online! Despite it's seemingly infinite open world size, LOTR themed! You still see plenty of people around, people organizing dungeons, a lot of new players joining each day more and more and it's steadily growing now, devs adding more updates, new content, expansions...in my opinion, this is the best mmorpg of all times...and 2nd is Turtle wow! The best private server I've ever seen in my life...the devs are also going strong, so many updates, new unique, innovative content, a plan to make an optional unreal engine 5 version of it as well so u can choose classic graphics or turtle wow 2.0(ue5) and just like with lotro, the community is extremely nice and kind, lots of people like to roleplay, and like with lotro, it has lots of players who are older too...I played with both games, with 50+ year olds or so who liked to roleplay and it was quite exciting to see.

LOTRO also has most of its expansions for free, only the latest ones cost money up to a certain amount of days and then it also becomes free but I think the more players play lotro, the more content updates they make, the more better it gets and honestly i dont think u can ask for more than what lotro has to offer, the most classical type of mmorpg with its trinity system, realistic graphics...like if you use reshade with it, ive never seen in my life an mmorpg to be this good...never and ive played all the most graphical games out there...and it just has massive lore and adventure, you really feel like youre a survivor in this massive land where anything can happen...you really have a lot to do...

But please try at least play 1 of these 2 games, i think they deserve a lot of support

I will never understand how people can play a game like Black Desert online without any clear goals except "grind" and claim it's fun. I have tried the game so many times but it just doesn't click for me :c

In my opinion, New World is bloody awesome

Most modern MMORPGs have stupid console-game style twitchy arcade-action combat, forced open-world PvP, and/or too much pay2win monetization, so I lost interest in buying/playing them.

Lost Ark at Release was AMAZING visiting the islands with my friends and sharing on our discord about all the cool new things and talking about the game, it was enjoyable and fun combat, however as LazyPeon stated after you get near the end the repetitive grind of Chaos Dungeons and Boss Raids and such every day gets annoying and is what got me to stop playing, but for the first month or 2 of the game it was one of the most enjoyable times i've had in a game
