Well, now I kinda get why people compared Tears of the Kingdom with this game, lol.

I happened to also love games where I can make stupid vehicles and happened to have a ton of fun with this but its definitely not the banjo threeie I had hoped for (I was mad at kingdom hearts 2 for gutting instead of extending the gummie ship portion of the game lol)

and holy shit I remember lego racers now, the superior Mario kart!

WHY THE HATE FOR BANJO-PILOT?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!! I LOVE THAT GAME!!!!!!!! IT WAS SUCH A FUN LITTLE RACER FOR THE GBA!!!!!!!! Oddly it felt very similar to a small scale Diddy Kong Racing. At least I would say oddly, but I found out that it was originally called Diddy Kong Pilot as a sort of spin off of the Donkey Kong spinoff it already was. Unless it was a sequal? Anyways it had the Diddy Kong and it had the racing so it was a similar thing. AAAANYWAYS it's a fun game for a GBA racer. More fun than Kario Kart imo. Play it people.

I always come back to this game just to make something new, at one point I made the eggmobile and buzz bomber from sonic. I even attempted the moto bug but it's really hard to get a vehicle to balance on one wheel and stay stable

I had grunty’s revenge on my gba and I’m super nostalgic for it. Was one of those “hey we are going on vacation let’s get you a new game to help occupy you in the car!” so I played it a ton over a 3-4 week period.

I actually did the same and got a xbox series x and decided to try out nuts and bolts, i didnt like it as a banjo game at all but Building stuff was kinda fun but doing a 100% on it is a nightmare

There was a friend of mine with pokemon on gba. I was jealous of him, and I wanted a gba too. Then Christmas came and I got gba packaged with a game "Banjo Kazooe Grunty's Revenge"

Some years after, in 2009 I wanted to get the Xbox 360 and in those Christmas I got it packaged with a game "Banjo Kazooe: Nuts and Bolts"

Fun Fact: the banjo pilot game was changed after rare was bought by Microsoft, as it was originally a diddy kong pilot game with characters from dkc with kremlings and kongs. You can still play it via emulation and it’s miles better than banjo pilot.

Let me get this straight, Banjo does the making things idea, it gets criticized, but Zelda does the same, and it gets a bunch of love.

I've been replaying this game with my son, sure, it doesn't have the charm of the N64 games, but it's still pretty good. I think I said this when I first played it: "It's a good game, but it's not a good Banjo game." It feels like they wanted to make a customizable vehicle game and just decided to slap the Banjo license on it.
Pro tip for the last 2 challenges: don't make a platform to carry objects, use the sticky ball instead.

I loved Nuts and Bolts as a Kid, as much as I loved Banjo and Kazooie. I was a weird kid, too young for the N64 when it came out, but I ended up playing a lot of it a few years after it fell out of date, so I ended up playing only a few popular N64 games, Banjo was one of them and I absolutely adored it. When Nuts and Bolts came out, I was so excited and ended up getting it day one and loving playing it, seeing all the references, making my own dumb car to drive around. And then... the hate online, the opinions of the masses that it was a bad game, that it sucked. I didn't agree with them, I vehemently disagreed being a child, but nothing much I could say against a bunch of old guard fans who didn't get what they expected. Thank you for giving this game the fair shake it deserved :)

this game might have been received better if they either cut out L.o.G entirely (as his introduction is what killed any goodwill this game could have gotten out the starting gate)
or just made it a blast works sequel. or maybe have it star timber and call it pro-am nuts and bolts.

I've owned yooka laylee for nearly a decade, and haven't put more than 2 hours into it. Believe me, I've tried a few times, even in the last few months. I think the problem is it just feels like a knockoff. It's not bad, I dont hate it by any means, it's just not the banjo threeie that I've been waiting for all these years. Nuts and bolts was trash, but I did have a blast with the vehicle creator while I was stuck at home for a few months around the time it was released. It doesn't deserve quite as much hate as it gets, but its no where near what we deserved from a true third entry.

Surprised you liked Grunty's Revenge. I played it to about halfway before giving up on it. I found it the controls too frustrating. It was like it wanted to be a 3D game but fixed in 2D.

Nuts and Bolts gets infinitely better once you see it as a commentary of today's game development. Don't forget that Microsoft bought B&K in '02. Rare was working on a remake of the first game (with added content) in '05, but it was scrapped and repurposed into Nuts and Bolts. I don't doubt that this was meddling from Microsoft.

If you take a look at all of the levels, everything looks... fake. Stitched together. Floors are made up of awkwardly placed panels, trees are artificial structures, and not a single real blade of grass. Save for Logbox 720, every level is like this. This isn't just because of the artstyle, because the two areas that DON'T have this inauthentic feel is Showdown Town and Spiral Mountain. The key word here is "inauthentic". Rare is smart. They didn't turn sour. They HAD to have known that this wasn't what fans wanted. So, everything is inauthentic, even down to the robotic enemies that roam the different worlds. That's why Spiral Mountain is my favorite level. Everything is real. The grass, the trees, everything. It's authentic - the Spiral Mountain we grew up to love, updated for modern gaming. What we wanted, and yet, tainted by Microsoft's direction by the addition of cars.

LOG states at the start that players "just want to shoot things". Anyone at the time of N&B's release could say that wasn't true. That's the point, however. LOG represents the out-of-touch companies in charge of making games. LOG is a stand-in for not just Microsoft, but every big company that claims to have "made every game". LOG interfering with the battle between B&K and Grunty is directly signifying Microsoft's meddling with the game. Microsoft didn't treat B&K as the labor of love that it was before, and instead as some sort of attraction, thinking that it will succeed simply because of the IP. Nothing points to this as much as Banjoland does.

Banjoland is a museum, the exhibits are all about past characters and events from the series' past. In this inauthentic world, the series is being treated as a relic, too old for the modern gaming sphere. This is also alluding to LOG's belief that players "just want to shoot things" and that B&K's old gameplay is antiquated. The signposts around the world detailing events from the previous games stand to tell players new to the world of B&K how great things used to be.

I used to say that N&B was a good game, but a bad B&K game. Recently, I've changed my mind. N&B is a good game, AND a good B&K game. It's a little buried, but the wit is still there under layers of irony and sarcasm. N&B tells me that Rare was thinking, "All right, we'll make the game that Microsoft wants to make, but we won't be happy about it." The fact that I haven't seen this opinion anywhere else tells me that Rare got away with it.

If they were able to develop this as a Diddy Kong Racing game it probably would've done great.

I'm currently working my way through the Rare Replay and just finished N&B (not counting the DLC world), and I got to say... the game is shit. They Really should have done another collectathon. Thankfully I too enjoyed YookaLaylee

The only points where I liked logs choice missions were where it adds a very unique challenge to what could be a simple level.

I’m still shocked how blindsided I was with nuts and bolts. It was nothing like I expected and the worlds was so big and empty.

I remember when they announced a new Banjo game I was so excited. Then I saw the trailer and It was the biggest let down of my entire life as a gamer. To me it just looked like a completely different game altogether. I mean if they were going to throw away the core gameplay entirely in favor of vehicle building why even call it a Banjo game? Just make a new IP and use new characters. The only reason I can think is they were just piggybacking on a beloved IP to boost sales
