What is the difference - Violin and Viola

Thanks!! I played violin for my whole childhood (many moons ago!! lol) and until now I always wondered what the difference was. Thank u for this beautiful explanation and demonstration! U play beautifully. I still am a musician now but my instrument is a different stringed instrument!! I’m a pianist!! When there are no words, music speaks !!

Why do some people on the internet laugh at violas?!? Can everyone explain? Viola jokes etc
For me everything is okay with viola and it sounds good…

Viola has more space in between strings so its less possible to accidentally bow 2 strings then in violin...

I like to think of the orchestral strings family as a regular family. The violin (smallest and highest) is the young child of the family, the viola (slightly larger and lower) is the big brother or big sister, the cello (even larger and lower) is the mother, and the double bass (largest and lowest) is the father.

There's another difference about them viola is bigger.

The highest string on the violin screeches in my ears while the viola (my primary instrument) is low enough to save my hearing while i lose my hearing 😅🎻

I literally learned like 2 days ago that viola uses a whole different clef, the alto clef. Which blew my mind

My 3rd grade violin was a mistake, I was supposed to be playing violin and they gave me a viola and said it was a violin.
Edit. My g string on that violin was just tuned to a c, everything else was normal

Hey guys…just random thoughts here…oh and I proved myself dumb…I really can give a better intro but basically…yeah. Read it.

I mean- I have nearly no musical knowledge….especially instrumental knowledge. But one thing I have observed…in the past two videos I’ve watched (😂) is that for violin-like instruments (I think they are called string instruments? Idk bro) and flute…or air instruments…lol…the bigger the instruments are or the longer the instruments are…the deeper the sounds are….like I genuinely don’t know but it’s just what I think…thinking about it now it only makes more sense 😂- so basically more wavelength less pitch- gosh I’m dumb. This is basic physics.

I love violin even if I never played it but I am gonna try it 😂😂❤❤❤ I can’t wait to be able to play memories the song and my other favorite songs

I've always loved the tone of the Viola!! It's incredibly smooth! Viola gets no love, but I prefer it over a violin.

In my orchestra class the violas sound higher, I don’t know if it’s my teacher who tunes the violas to make them a higher pitch, but I heard other violas that sound like this one in the video. I’m a violinist :)
