Anyone else notice the Black guests didn't get to start speaking until more than 15 minutes in?

P.S.Please include 5 student's last names and program affiliations so that audience etc. can follow them and their work.
BTW: Alex would be a gr8 fit for Post Doctoral /fellowships esp. at Cornell. Hint! Hint!

Half the time I can’t figure out who is speaking or maybe you are ventriloquists?

I'd like to hear more from these guests in the future - it sounds like they are studying some fantastic stuff! If they have the time, of course!

Just listened to this. Hmm... I will send email feedback but in general, there is no ownership of white privilege here.

I don't think we can move forward without experiencing the darkness from within. That is a difficult place to go and it wasn't visited here.

Science is specifically nonbiased, yet has been used to bias and injure, is still being used and even funded to inure racism in our midst.

I would be very interested in the Chinese application of untested vaccines in Uyghur populations. That is a very isolate and clean example of the kind of talk this podcast did not get into. The US is doing this very experiment with African and Native American populations with their own immunological risks.

Henrietta Lacks was never mentioned.

It's not that minority contributions shouldn't be recognized... the history and current bias here was never addressed personally or within the immunological sciences as a whole.

Poverty also was not mentioned.

Hmm... I will write an email maybe... am I off base here? IDK.

Dr. Racaniello, this is a good first discussion, however I would suggest that as to what are the best ways-it is not one way I think, but ways to approach this problem is to be in conversation with African American scientists based on their experience. The other thing regarding the letter from the person who was raised in a racist country, I am glad that he heard Dr. Kizzmet, and that he is starting to come to grips with his racism. What one was raised with however, does not melt away in one talk, that is a long process to deal with it (racism).
Again, thanks for beginning this discussion.

Year after year, microbe after microbe, we see the same story. Nothing turns an epidemic into a crisis faster than inequality.

Vincent, crew, and guests, this was fantastic. These personal stories are so informative and entertaining, and I love hearing how people navigate their life opportunities and challenges. Looking forward to Black in Immuno week!

The comments section today is rather amusing. People who can save your life are giving their help to you for free, helping save the lives of your parents, your children and your partner. You are not paying, you are watching for free. But you are going to complain anyway, because you do not understand certain things, especially if it has something to do with inequality, and whats more you have made up your mind and you are stubborn, and refuse to learn anything. I am wondering why someone like this even comes to a podcast that has been teaching us for years and years, it seems some of you know everything already and think you are here to teach. Hint.. if you are relegated to the comments section, you are not the reason we are here. If you are on the show, thank you, you are exactly the reason we are here. xx

some of you are so silly and immature. every year there's a study published about inequities in medicine/health care for black people and our health suffers because of it. even with covid, black people are 2x as likely to die from it. yet, you all want to bury your head in the sand because the topic makes you feel uncomfortable.

Proper protocol is to introduce white folks first. Simple etiquette.
