As of yesterday, July 15th, the Women-Owned Small Businesses and Economically Disadvantaged WOSBs certification process has changed! Self-certifying is no longer a thing, and is coming to an end due to changes to the Program, ultimately a change that was put forth in the 2015 National Defense Authorization Act.
So this is what you need to know about the four new regulations in the WOSB Federal Contracting Program
1. First off, there is a new, free online certification process for WOSBs and EDWOSBs.
-I’ll share the portal link below
- you may have to create a new login even if you already have a certify.sba.gov account.
-Make sure you have your DUNS and cage code to register.
-I went ahead and downloaded the applicant user guide
-Let me know if you’d like a copy and I’ll send that over to you
2. Secondly, SBA is allowing other firms to participate in this process, given that they are certified by the Veterans Affairs Center of Verification and Evaluations and provided they meet all eligibility requirements.
3. Thirdly, SBA will continue to allow participation from businesses that utilize approved Third-Party Certifiers to get certified.
4. And Lastly, SBA is completely eliminating the current self-certification option from certify.sba.gov as of October 15th this year.
The implementation of these changes was moved to July 2020 to due to the current global pandemic, so contractors need to keep in mind the following related timeline:
o The current self-certification process is available until October 15, 2020
o As of yesterday, certified WOSBs must download their documentation, currently housed in the WOSB Program Repository, from certify.sba.gov.
o Also as of yesterday, contractors can start submitting applications under the new certification process for initial processing.
o And lastly, on October 15 of this year, SBA will start issuing decisions on certifications.
