As a former pot grower, there are good guys and bad guys. I tried to be a good guy. I bred the first low THC high CBD stable seed strain called Abacus. It's grown as hemp now in many states. Likely your problems will go away with federal legalization and interstate commerce. Once cannabis can be transported across state lines legally, cultivation will go to states with fewer taxes. California just won't be able to compete and you'll be able to buy their ranch for a song. Property values in Humboldt county are five times less than 6 years ago. Sadly the only people that could get permits were people that had enough money to weather the permitting process which means they were really big and growing a lot when it was illegal. The good small guys are starving up here now or are gone. But it is quieter. Up here in Southern Humboldt everybody grew, it was normal. They even in backyards in town. There was actually a middle class because if someone got too big, they got taken out by law enforcement. It was actually a good model for a balanced society monetarily. Once legalization came, and there were less big guys being stopped the prices for black market outdoor dropped to 200 a pound which is unsustainable because of all the work that goes into it. At it's peak 25 years ago it was 5000 a pound. Nature is taking over up here again and the plants and trees are enjoying all the imported nitrogen still left in the ground. We could use some more fires though. Too many Douglas firs.
