Google’s Find My Device Network on Android Is OK but Apple’s Is Better

Google knows how to F everything up. For a company that has a lot of smart people, they sure do a lot of dumb s**t.

Here in india they(Google) sent me an email about their new find my device feature but it's a while now.

Totally google fault find my device network is still currently pants, lack of update sent out to majority of android ohones & the choice of not work in all traffic areas as default was awful idea.

The “for now” in the title is such a sweet optimism filled message for a company whose home work was done by Apple years ago and simply had to replicate it (because that’s what they’re best at) but still failed.
They had the already perfect thing to compare and improve their crap but still couldn’t “yet”.

Its amazing that google by default tracks your every move & track what you do on your phone by then on a encrypted tracker is decides we dont make any money of this so we will not use the best option by defsult. Crazy, google really needs new management at the top.

I have both an Apple Airtag and Samsung Smart Tag 2. I will admit the airtag works a little better. When tracking it tracks while the airtag is moving while the Smart Tag does not. I can find the smart tag but it doesn't track while moving.

On the other hand I recently took a flight from California to Colorado and put both trackers in my luggage. One of my bags was left behind to take the next flight. Both trackers located my luggage in California but once my luggage was in flight to Colorado I was able to track my luggage on the plane. I was able to track it once it was flying over Utah.

When are you going to add the Samsung hardware to the comparison video?

I have an idea on how those people were able to get on the network early. But, if you dont know i am not going to go out of the way to tell you.....

I got the Find my network update in Chile yesterday 🇨🇱

Google find my device failed me when my pixel 7 pro got stolen out of my car. I also reported it stolen and blocked the imei but later found out that was removed within a few weeks. Never again with GOOGLE

If Apple and Google both make one network. it will be good for all of us.

I love tracking people.

I just need something very tiny that I can attach to my earphones... I tend to lose one of the two

This is the problem with android and always has been.
They are super inconsistent across products and manufacturers.

You buy an iphone and an airtag, and itll just work.
You buy a samsung and a smarttag and it just kinda doesnt.

Hopefully it will work better outside of the US because Android is most used in the rest of the world

Who would have thought that Google takes privacy more seriously, when apple always advertises how private an iPhone is.

Clear and concise. Good to know how default settings matter and how wide the network is. (Samsung is not as ubiquitous as Android)

Google has to change that useless default setting to "all areas" if they want to try to compete with apple. And they have to do it fast!

The Pebblebee devices do not work at all with Google Find My Devices, except for locating something nearby your own phone. Tracking your luggage while on the go? Forget it!!! 
Even with setting to "in all areas with network" you simply do not receive any update of the actual location on your phone. In fact there appears not to be any communication between any android phone - Pebblebee - and your phone ongoing. Tested it many times with lots of android users nearby. The device's location continuously remained at the last tracked location, which is my home. Pebblebee devices are also not being displaced on the Google FMD web. With other words Pebblebee and Google FMD sucks big time! Absolutely useless and a waste of money!

I installed the Find My Device on my Google Pixel 8 Pro here in Russia, but we don`t have the "With network in all areas" option in the Security settings of the Pixel (Built No. AP2A.240705.005)

Apple sells less phones globally than samsung. There is comparison videos where the samsung tracker performs better. And it will certainly perform MUCH better if you travel to some place where people can not afford iphones. Samsung has a higher market share than Apple, so this reviewer is only biased towards Samsung and Android because she is clearly an iPhone user. "Market share in the entire world during the first quarter 2024, Samsung had 20.8% to Apple's 17.3%." and: "Samsung shipped 3bn smartphones in 10 years, 33% more than Apple, Xiaomi, Huawei"

These are transitional rollout details. Apple did the same. There are far more androids in circulation globally. Odds are better you will find your item using Android Find My. Why not mention this?

Apple is not better. Once you use Apple locate device it puts all devices in a security mode that disables functions on the device and it's a pain to remove the block.

For everyone saying Samsung’s smart tag2 is better, only the plus models of the S series have ultra wide band, which doesn’t really make it that much better for places where people cant afford iPhones because the base iPhones already have ultra wide band, not just the plus models.

Thank you for confirming what folks such as myself were going through with these android tags. They just do not work that well and it is frustrating for someone coming to Android with the Pixel 9 ProXL... my main incentive for entering into android is the AI and photo-integration... but I am questioning if it is even worth it at this point.

Google sucks and I'm officially "opting out" of everything google. Sick of their scammy sneaky ways. I know y'all care more about your devices than your privacy but I also know you're all stupid.
