“Humans were the last to be created. We are the youngest. We must learn from our Elders, watching, looking and listening to all those created before us.”
—Pat McCabe

Ancient Rhythms: Dreaming Into Death & Renewal (Dec 21, 2024) invited participants into a virtual ceremonial space at the threshold of winter’s deepest darkness (for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere). Renowned wisdom keepers Pat McCabe (Woman Stands Shining) and Francis Weller guided an intimate exploration of the sacred landscapes between loss and regeneration.

Through poetry, storytelling, and depth-filled dialogue, this solstice offering created a contemplative space to honor life’s cyclical nature—embracing grief, releasing what no longer serves, and awakening to the tender seeds of potential waiting in the fertile darkness.

Drawing from Indigenous wisdom and archetypal psychology, McCabe and Weller illuminated the transformative power of conscious descent. Participants were invited to witness and metabolize personal and collective transitions, understanding death not as an ending, but as a profound dreaming—a sacred passage of renewal. This online SAND gathering celebrated the winter solstice as a powerful moment of inner alchemy, where the soul meets its own profound capacity for regeneration.

Pat McCabe (Weyakpa Najin Win, Woman Stands Shining) is a Diné (Navajo) mother, grandmother, activist, artist, writer, ceremonial leader, and international speaker. She is a voice for global peace, and her paintings are created as tools for individual, earth and global healing. She draws upon the Indigenous sciences of Thriving Life to reframe questions about sustainability and balance, and she is devoted to supporting the next generations, Women’s Nation and Men’s Nation, in being functional members of the “Hoop of Life” and upholding the honor of being human.

Her primary work at the moment is:

-The reconciliation between the masculine and feminine, Men’s Nation and Women’s Nation
-Remembering, recreating or creating a new narrative for the Sacred Masculine
-Addressing the Archetypal Wounding that occurred in our misunderstanding and abuse of technology in prayer, ceremony and science

Francis Weller, MFT, is a psychotherapist, writer and soul activist. He is a master of synthesizing diverse streams of thought from psychology, anthropology, mythology, alchemy, indigenous cultures and poetic traditions. Author of The Wild Edge of Sorrow: Rituals of Renewal and the Sacred Work of Grief; The Threshold Between Loss and Revelation, (with Rashani Réa) and In the Absence of the Ordinary: Essays in a Time of Uncertainty, he has introduced the healing work of ritual to thousands of people. He founded and directs WisdomBridge, an organization that offers educational programs that seek to integrate the wisdom from indigenous cultures with the insights and knowledge gathered from western poetic, psychological and spiritual traditions.
