A pensioner has got to that age and paid into the system, whether they have savings or not, they have already paid into the system for probably 50+ years so they should all be entitled to it. When members of parliament are free and easy with tax payers money to heat the first or second home but take it away from a pensioner, it’s unforgivable! The tax rates are aimed to fleece the lower income earnings. 40 % for top earners . Where is the 30% band and 60% band for Amazon people etc.

This may not be popular but I’m one of the fortunate pensioners who have additional pensions. I do not need the winter fuel payment. There a quite a lot of pensioners in a similar situation. I do agree that people who rely only on the government pension do need the help. Things need to be more nuanced.

There are many pensioners that could do with the winter fuel payment, but there are pensioners who are better off and putting the payment towards their next holiday. Labour needs to see the difference between the rich and the poor. Some are abusing the system, while others go without!

I'm so shocked at the backlash that this decision is getting. Old people ARE NOT financially vulnerable, they probably make up some of the richest ppl in the country in the UK. People with disabilities are also well looked after, financially, in this country, which probably means they won't even miss the winter fuel allowance, as much as other ppl would. Furthermore, the allowance is being means-tested, so the people who really do need this extra help are getting it! Finally, a lot of the backlash from political parties is probably 'a dig,' at the Labour party because they know the older generation are more likely to vote than the younger generation and we also live in an ageing population. Am I the only one that sees this?

Firstly Pension Credit would cost more than the Winter Payment, 2ndly The pension now being paid is £2.00 over the line, Torries knew this when they altered the system.
